Hey ROB:

In the 1967 Fethry Duck story S 67194, "Summer Camp" drawn by Tony
Strobl, Fethry and later HDL swim like real ducks. Just to make sure we "get
it", other characters in the story point out that that's what they're doing.
Note- the version published by Egmont is cut, so only Fethry's
duck-swimming is seen; HDL's is taken out of the story. (Pity, as HDL make
the more memorable image... they're jarringly swimming like ducks among a
lot of other kids who swim like humans!)

Yup. Did a little research; Herbert Haddock took over OLYMPIC after
her master, Smith, became captain of TITANIC. And the same Haddock
was captain of TITANIC when Harland & Wolf performed the sea trials,
before she was delivered to WSL.

BTW, in this on-going discussion about beaks and webs and wings and
whatever not belonging to ducks but to humans, I'm surprised that
noone has mentioned the one mammal having beak and laying eggs. Not
that it matters, but in a discussion being so ridiculous anyway...

J?rgen - who doesn't have a beak, and very seldom says quack, but
still is a human. Or so I think, anyway... QUACK!

Oh, but that animal WAS mentioned in this discussion.
Somewhere in the 2000 mails of the past week...

Bubutbut - that's not a mammal, is it? (googling for a while)
Hm, Now I'm confused. I always thought the the platypus was considered
neither mammal not 'egg-animal', because it has the characteristics of
both - laying eggs and giving nurture from the body (breastfeeding)

Ah, here is the word I'm searching for (kloakdjur in swedish):
monotremata, "means one hole, a reference to the single anal opening
(cloaca) which these mammals share with reptiles, amphibians, and fishes."
And BIRDS! pah...

Anyway, there are only two of them, both in australia - the Platypus and
the Echidna. But...
Ah, if anyone is interested, look here! very good page:
http://www.geobop.com/Mammals/Monotremata/

So, you were right - they are, possibly questionably, classified as one
kind of mammal.

/T, doing research on the wrong stuff now, should work on my thesis
instead!

Nice observation. I never saw the "humor" in this scene. At the time I read
it, I compared it to doing "grizzled-old-prospector humor" during the San
Francisco earthquake.

I DO! David and I created the character of Flatypus the Platypus when we were 12 or 13 years old. It was based on a ridiculous-looking hand puppet we bought on one of our famous "Stupidity Trips" down to a drug store where we would stuff our faces and come up with some of the silliest ideas.-Dan

I din't mean to accuse you for anything - I was just asking that question
based on the information (close to nothing) available by the time.

Anyway I often experience the same thing - that people read something in my
text that I actually din't put into it.

Yes, it was mentioned by me in message:

The Don Rosa and Gemstone front has been very quiet for weeks now. I was just
wondering if anyone knew any new/interesting info. about either of them?

Yesterday I received a surprise package from a friend in the US,
containing the "Maharajah Donald" issue. (Oh, rapture! Oh, joy!)

Inside, there was an ad page about forthcoming titles, which at the end
contained a subscription coupon for those who cannot get the comic books
at comic book stores.

This would indicate that Gemstone is offering subscriptions from day one.
I am tempted to just write Gemstone and order everything mentioned in
that page, sight unseen, but it would be nice if Gary could forward
these questions to their subscriptions person and post his reply.
I am sure it will be of interest to more than myself.

* Is Gemstone offering subscriptions from day one, despite what Gary said
in his April 1st posting, which I hope was an April fools' day gag?
* If so, what are the subscription prices for orders from outside the US
(Europe in particular)? The coupon only gives one price, and in the
case of WDC&S and U$ it is rather obviously wrong, as it is 12 times
the price of the Donald Duck Adventures book and not 12 times 6.95).
* What about the Donald Duck Adventures book, which was not mentioned
in the coupon? Should one order just the one issue, until you decide
to make it a regular title, or do you offer subscriptions for that, as
well? In either case, what is the price for ordering from outsde the US?
* Assuming that the answer to all the above is "yes, you can order
everything for such an amount", is there something that people with
Gladstone subscriptions should do to ensure that all the money we
send go towards extending our subscriptions, instead of getting some
double copies, one from the old subscription and one from the new?

Thanks,

Does anyone know what is that big ugly white square on the cover of
"Maharajah Donald"? If it were smaller, and the comic book had been sold
at news stands, it could have been the space reserved for the UPC symbol,
but, as it is, I am completely baffled.

Dear friends;

as earlier mentioned, my first Disney comic will hit the Scandinavian
weeklies 26-2003. It would be a great pleasure for me to actually GET these
magazines.

Although I can get Donald Duck & Co myself, I need someone with access to
Anders And & Co / Kalle Anka & Co to buy these magazines for me. Can anyone
here help me?

Of course, I will pay for both the magazines and the shipping - or, if
you're interested, I'm sure we could find a trade of some sort.

Naturally, this offer also stands for ANYONE who would happen to find a
magazine with D/D 2001-013 in it (14 pages, Beagle Boys story, written by
me, art by N??ez) in their language, but outside Scandinavia I have _no_
idea when it will be.

You have my e-mailaddress.

Best,
Olaf the Blue

Hello Robert

Just reread your story D 90249 (Knallhardt skirenn in Norwegian) in our DD
weekly 49/1992. Art seems to be by Branca. Nice story!!! Seems it has been
a while since we got something new from you in our weekly in Scandinavia,
though. Could you tell us what you are doing these days?

Kind regards Erik Horthe

I haven't seen the comic (yet), but my guess is that it's the place where the comic shop can put its stamp.

Famous?! I thought nobody noticed us. (Er, I HOPE nobody noticed us!!)

Yes... as junior high school students, Dan and I bought a mangy
collection of puppets, planning to produce and sell puppet films for kids.
We only ever made one such film and sold one copy of it (a stunning Super 8
silent!), but the puppets led to homemade comics which we drew for quite a
while.
Mine were titled Soft Comics. Despite the name and the pledge (inside
the front cover) that the stories were wholesome, I tried to end as many as
possible with one character furiously chasing another into the sunset.
