Interesting: I've seen some Chinese Disney comics, where the comics were
redrawn versions of Barks' and other creators' comics. Illegal
according to European and American laws, but probably not illegal
according to the Chinese laws of that time. Were any the Polish comics
redrawn versions of other stories?

I'm confused. Why would Swedes in Finland want to form their own state when Sweden is right next door? All they'd have to do is get on a train and actually go there.-Dan

Hi
I can only recommend for you to go look at this site:
www.donaldisten.dk/comics/ has an extensive lot of links to various only
comics, including story codes, and other neat facts about the comics.
Good luck :-)
It also carries a nice guide for downloading comics from other sources but
the website.
best wishes,

Why don't you buy a subscription to the upcoming American Disney comics
from Gemstone? Much better than just reading low-resolution pixelised
comics on a computer screen.

I'm going to answer to three mails in one, hope you forgive me, but as this
is so off topic I want to minimize the mails. I think this would be best
taken to email, and I will happily answer if anyone for some strange reason
wants to talk about the Swedish language in Finland.

Well no, there aren't any 'etnic conflicts' especially if we compare to what
even today is happening in the world. But, I don't want to attribute it to
any similarities (or dissimilarities), simply because that is a convinient
reason for anyone to use to discriminate against 'other' people that are
seen as too 'different' (this is currently a very hot button for me for
totally different reasons).

Urgh... well... how should I put this... The above statement is like
suggesting to a French-Canadian to move to France. I'm not a Swede in the
meaning of being a subject of or even indentifying myself with Sweden in any
way, and as far as I know most, if not all, Sweden-Finns (finlandssvenskar),
want to continue to live just like it is now. But this is a can of worms,
and although a very small one, I don't want to open it here... my cultural
background is something that is important to me, but I'm sure most people
here are not interested, and it is off topic.

Close, I'm from the archipelago between the Aaland Islands and Turku. And
no, the direct paternal line is broken (IIRC) in the middle of the 17th
century by an unknown father, but I hope to someday map the whole family
tree as far as possible, not just the paternal line as that is just soooo...
paternalistic. :)
And by this I'm bowing out of the discussion. I'm sorry if I fanned any
flames. Now, where did I put my lurking cloak?

You're right, it was the effect of reading digests - I simply took the
names that fitted the category from the digest I had just read when I
felt that it was more than enough. So, I should've put an "and many more"
or just not single out anyone at all. It went a bit quick, my apologies.
My view stands though, it's tiresome to read messages filled with nothing
but attacks and nitpicking about wordings and, well you probably know what
I mean...
Anyways, since I'm about as OT as I can be, congrats to Turkey for winning
(I'm only happy Sweden didn't... And Belgium... :) Norway should've won,
he was cute.. ;)
KVACK! (oh yeah, I can extend a happy quack from all the ducklings and
geeselings (what are goosekids called? :) and other birds in the lake

June, wish me luck!) - it's situated in a natural preserve area by the
ocean, and virtually littered with ducks, geese and mallards now! And 2

OT WARNING: As over the past few years we've had so many interesting off-topic
discussions, due to the great variation in nationalities and cultures we have
represented on this list, I wonder if we shouldn't try to make a SECOND DCML
forum for NON Disney Comics Topics, or "Tangential Topics". The reason I bring
this up is because a lot of us are friendly and comfortable with a lot of the
other list members, and share a lot of interests together in many of the other
academic pursuits. In addition, from what I've seen, we seem to have a higher
percentage of well-educated, knowledgeable, rational(despite a bit of recent
raving)and well-meaning posters, than the average forum I've seen. We also
have little spamming and messages from hate-mongers. In other words, many of us
like to talk about other topics with these same people. We get into a lot of
discussions that really should not be
pursued on this forum. Yet, we are reticent to move our comments to private e-
mail, because that would restrict the conversations to 2 people, and cut out a
lot of pertinent commentary. I wonder if we could form a 2nd form, as an
adjunct to THIS ONE, where we could leave to hold tangential OFF-TOPIC
discussions. It couldn't be a completely unrelated forum, as most of us
probably wouldn't find time to go there, just to see if there are some topics
brought up. If we could have a separate forum within the framework of current
DCML master pages, when we see a topic pop up on the "MAIN BOARD", we could
say: "Hey Gang,-let's continue this on the "OFF-TOPIC Page". Then they would
all move the discussion to the other page, and the dcml comics-only readers
wouldn't be burdened with so much off-topic posting. I have forwarded this
message also to Per Starback, to get his thoughts on this. Per, I realize you
already spend much time on our behalf, and if such an endevour would be too
much work, we'll understand. Thanks,
Rob Klein

I know some estonian Disney comics that were printed already in 1930's. Here
is scans of estonian comic book printed in 1970's

It's illegal publication, AFAIK, but nevertheless real disneycomics. Some
redrawn stuff was published early 1980's in Pildivihik (picture book) comic
book. Not too good and black and white. I hope to get some scan on line
soon.

Hi everyone!
Rob:
>>>I wonder if we shouldn't try to make a SECOND DCML
>>> forum for NON Disney Comics Topics, or "Tangential Topics".
Great idea!
How about making it a discussion board rather than a mailing-list?
It would make it easier to sort the messages by theme (other comics / books / Disney movies / other
movies / ...); besides, if several topics on that list was as active as the DCML is, that would
make an awful lot of e-mails / huge digests.
A board would also be easier to set up & manage-- but then it would take more place.
I have never seen it, but I guess it might be possible to combine a mailing list with a board, ie
have a message board with a mailing list for every main theme.
Have a nice day!

Jaybird cannon in "The Doom Diamond" (US 70)
Message 510 -

Page 12 of Barks' story "The Doom Diamond" (US 70) seems to suggest
that the jaybird cannon in Scrooge's submarine is attached *upside
down*. When Scrooge shows the cannon to Donald (panel 12.4), they're
standing on the submarine's ceiling.
This is not an error. I just found it funny to notice.
(An explanation could be that Scrooge foresaw the possibility of being
put upside down, so he made two jaybird cannons. One on the floor. And
one upside down on the ceiling, meant as an alternate floor.)
