But I am sure I also speak for other Scandinavians here when I ask all here
with English as their mothertongue to remember that English is a language
with a huge vocabulary. This means that we scandinavians can't know
absulutely every English word. And parts of our vocabulary is naturally
picked up from Hollywood films - that's why I and other Scandinavians my
have what you may see as a somewhat "offensive" style when using English.

At "http://www.cbarks.dk/THECONCOCTIONS.htm" I saw that there are
strange mixed-up animals shown in the background of one panel in
Barks' "How Green Was My Lettuce" (US 51). It's the first panel
in which Donald an Scrooge are disguised as lettuce farmers. I've
never seen that detail before, myself.

THIS is what makes internet so interesting for me.

Such discussions are most welcome-- actually, I think that's what the DCML is supposed to be about.
Two points, though:
- limiting them in time (especially a week) is a bit of a constraint
- could you please identify yourself ? Just the first name will do-- it's os much easier & nicer
than calling you "Someone U Know" / "Inverted Logic"

Interesting point-- which involves a bit of research in the stories.
Obviously, slapstick humor. But then, as you point out, why so often (is it that systematic?)?

Concerning foreigners not knowing exactly how obscene a word might be,
especially given the unfortunate use of offensive language in Hollywood
movies: simply ask yourself, would this word appear in a Disney comic? If
it could not, then don't use it here on the forum. Scatology of any kind
will be offensive, despite the idiots in Hollywood and their attempts at
making the lowest class behavior mainstream. I realize the influence of
American movies can seem overwhelming, but...they are just movies. They
are not reality! Most Americans are not using filthy words in every other
sentence, unless maybe they are frustrated members of the
Lumpenproletariat, (the bottom 2%) and even then, there is really no excuse
for it. Obscenity is a sign of a limited vocabulary, of a limited mind.

On the English language:

I've stayed out of any recent unpleasantness up until
now. But the exchange between Rodney and Sigvald did
bring up an interesting point regarding the influence
of pop culture on how the English language (American,
British, Australian, etc. versions) is viewed *and*
learned abroad. While I do believe that context can
definitely be a major indicator of what is and is not
acceptable, what is acceptable has been on an
incredibly fluid sliding scale, especially where
movies and tv are concerned. It may be less so where
the general public is concerned. The point is, that
without some guidance, it could be very easy for
someone learning the language to accept some of what
can be called here in the US "potty-mouth" without the
knowledge that not only is it slang, but it is also
considered terms and phrases not proper for polite and
learned conversation and discourse. Personally, I
know there have been certain messages on the DCML I
would judiciously censor for my daughter once she
learns how to read (and love Disney comics, of
course!). I'm sure that those of us who are native
English speakers could provide some guidance on this
matter. Thus ends the OT portion of this posting.

Welcome! To my knowledge, we have precious few
participating members from outside the "major" Disney
comics countries. So any addition to the folks like
Arie in Indonesia, Mateusz and Maciek in Poland, etc.
is and should be highly valued. Any contributions to
the current (or past) situation of Disney comics in
Egypt would be most welcome.

You clearly haven't learned a thing from the previous weeks of agonizing
and repetitive 'discussions' on this list. Please, do not... I repeat, DO
NOT express such certainty of something which you do not and can not know.

Unless you happen to be a spokesperson for someone else, who might then
be referred to by name, you are in no position to make your cause one of
all Norwegians, Scandinavians or whatever silent majority you are claiming
to be sharing your views.

And just to pre-empt your answer: in this context "(other) Scandinavians"
is not as specific as "some Scandinavians" or "all Scandinavians", but will
most likely be read as meaning "all - except for an insignificant few -
Scandinavians".

The rest of the message I'm not going to bother dignifying with a comment.
Its absurd excuse for logic speaks for itself, if it makes sense at all.
