Sorry, I should have checked the name at the bottom of the message.

To Mr. Don Rosa:
I'm glad you still plan on responding to questions even though this
board is a mess sometimes. I always have a ton of inquiries. I just wanted to
know what story you are working on now and in the near future. Have you finished
the "Letter from Home?" I can't wait to read that one although it might be a
year before it gets published in the States after, of course, your backlog of
three years worth of stories starting with the "Lost Dutchman Mine" in June.
Was the reappearance of Matilda McDuck everything you hoped for when you
originally thought out the story? That's all for now!

Gee, I have been spamfiltering a couple of DCML members whose tone (and
counter-tone) I considered quite offensive, and as a result the DCML
atmosphere for me is much more peaceful and enjoyable now. (The number
of posts worth discussion, however, does suffer substantially.)

A.n.f.s.c.d.: Michael Barrier (of Funnyworld fame, and auther of the
"Carl Barks and the art of the Comic Book" book) has launched a website
at:
http://www.michaelbarrier.com/index.html
Hopefully he will add some of his classic interviews with/essays on
Disney comics artists soon ... [I am aware that, for the time being,
this mail is off-topic and so I am highly at risk to end up in other
members' kill filters though, but I can't help it.]

Oh, please. I don't want *such* words here. And I think some other DCML
members too. Read previous digests.

So please propose a topic (story to analyse).

We are still waiting for a good, interesting topic(s).
IMO some people here can't live without DCML :-) (me too) and they are
inventing less interesting topics, just to speak with other members.

Best wishes,

I agree with Don and the others who are disappointed in the recent "conditions"
on DCML. I am confident our problems will pass. There have always been
periodic lulls in the amount of new, interesting posts. I am also confident
that the "I meant-YOU meant" posting style defending squabbling and "chit chat"
will stop. As far as the OT forum/list,...My opinion is that it is a great
success. My idea for it was: to have a place where interested DCML members
could take OT threads over to another place and CONTINUE them, without straying
too far away from the DCML original topic. It is ONLY when such topics get TOO
FAR away, that we do it. My purpose was NOT to have a lot of chit chat activity
ALL THE TIME, or to have a high volume of posts. Nor was it to have all
the "objectionable postings" from DCML move to "DCML-Talk". WE DON'T WANT "I
SAID...YOU SAID" DISCUSSIONS OR ACCUSATION POSTS COMING TO US, EITHER!

Cord has set up the perfect forum/list for us. Most of our activity has been
testing our system. We've had only a few threads, because only a few topics on
DCML were worthy of OT discussion which had the potential for straying far
enough from the Disney Comics topic to yet be interesting to our members. THAT
is the ONLY use I envisioned. If we have a month between interesting topics,-SO
BE IT! The important fact is that we have a place to go if, and when we need
it.

Regarding Gladstone's Luck: I think that the odds against the random coming
together of the torn map in a close enough agglomeration to be read with ease
(Hondorica) are astoundingly high. But, I also think that the odds of many of
the "coincidental events" that did happen to Gladstone that cannot in ANY way
be quantified, have also astronomically high odds against them. there is no
real way to compare their possibilities of occurence. They all require
differing assumptions as to the realms of possibilities and potentially inter-
related events (e.g. the "removing one grain of sand effect").

Regarding the 3 Disney "Comics-related" "self-contained publication issue" that
I would keep if fate would take away all others from me (which I could NOT
replace):

I would keep Volumes I, II, and III of Carl Barks Library (All the Donald Duck
one-shots) and(US #1-20), if those "single hard bound books could be counted as
ONE ISSUE. If the three had to be "individual comic books", I would be in
trouble, as they are from the 1940s and very early 1950s-and will crumble to
dust within the next 10-15 years or so. Picking my favourite 3 stories would be
almost impossible-as I have hundreds (just among Barks, Gottfredson, Jippes,
and Scarpa, alone). At gunpoint I would keep (1)Barks' US "Lost in the Andes",
(2)Gottfredson's "Mickey Mouse Meets the Phantom Blot" as reprinted in 1955
Mickey Mouse Parade US release (I forget exact title of book), and (3)Freddy
Milton's epic Donald Duck story "De Grote Niezer" as printed in Dutch Disney's
1980 Groot Vacantieboek.

What I would keep as long as possible, as there is NO way to replace it with a
low cost re-print, is my mint (new) original 1949 Donald Duck March of
Comics "Race to the South Seas" (by Barks). Unfortunately (as I understand it)
the original art, and all photostats of the art have been destroyed or lost).
ALL reprints of the story (including CBL) are NOT the original art of Barks,
but have been re-inked by Dutch artists Dick Vlotes (spelling error?) and Daan
Jippes. Jippes' pages are passable, but many of the Vlotes pages are horrible
distortions of Barks' lines (to my taste). That ruins the enjoyment of the
story for me. Also unfortunately, its newsprint pages will eventually turn to
yellow-brown, and crumble. I sincerely hope that SOMEONE will allow their copy
of that issue to be scanned, so that it's pixeled colour can be removed, and
Barks ink lines can be preserved and later reprinted for posterity. I cannot be
the generous one to risk my books value by bending it in a scanner, as I will
need to get every bit of value out of its sale (as I will need that money to
supplement my old age pension). I hope someone with a poor-condition copy (but
with the degredation not effecting how the panels would scan) will allow
his/hers to be scanned-so Barks' original lines can be scanned and saved.

There is no comic or related item that I would never sell. Unfortunately, I
will likely have to sell ALL of my items that are worth anything, just to eat
or have a roof over my head when I am very old.

Hi,
This is a very long one. so feel free to skip it. i wasnt able to reply one
by one and only have this time to reply "all at once" ... at the cost of
readers' inconvenience :-)
Sorry for the long email.

Sander:
"I've seen two in D95139 ("The Exotic Prize"): The one you wrote about
("NIMARCORAI AIROTAMOR") and the name of the newspaper Donald holds on the
same first page is "Roocramta" (upside down)."

u're right. i never noticed it before. i thought of it as untranslated
language. It's very smart way to put it as anagram. thanks for pointing that
out.

Harry:
I can see why some of the characters were "unused" now. Are some of the
Ducktales characters put in the "unused characters list" also? I never
really liked the ducktale comic stories but i remembered reading some of em
when i was a kid and barely reading any now except for occasional 1-2 comic
pages featuring Launchpad McQuack, drawn by VanHorn.

Kristian Pederson:
I myself have been fascinated by Barks' depictions of Gladstone's luck. And
the torn pages event in Hondorica story is quite nigh-impossible.
Other Gladstone nigh-impossible luck would hafta be in a ten-pager story
(cant remember title and code cause i aint got it with me right now) where
Gladstone and Donald are each given a job/business to develop/take care of.
Gladstone got the job wheer he must move an old lady's house from a top of
hill to another. To move a house with the old lady still in it, and no
mentioning that the items in the house are broken/messed up clearly shows
another nigh-impossible luck of Gladstone ;-)

On the language issue:
Well, i certainly would like to see less "vulgar" words. There have been
enough negative aura here in DCML without the needs to add it with
inappropriate vocabularies. So the best we can do is to cut some negative
attitude ourselves and add some positivity to this list.

DCML a mess(?)
Things arent looking good now, but be patient, im sure when the new
publications of Gemstone hits the market and reach the hands of the eager
Disney comics fans who've waited long enough to read Dons stories in English
and other stories from European comic artists, new topics wil start to rise
faster and in a whole lot more quantity than we can address one at a time.
:-)
Speaking of which, just got my own copies of the FCBD DDA. It's superb.
Though the inside pages looked a bit "blurry" but they're enjoyable. And the
flip cover design is great too. Kudos to Gemstone for a very attractive FCBD
edition. I didnt even bother to get other FCBD comics.

3 comics one wouldnt sell for anything:
It's hard though. why 3? I want to keep all my comics :-)
Well, if a choice must be made, certainly an Uncle Scrooge issue with the
Back To Klondike story. Uncle Scrooge issue with the King of The Klondike
story. And lastly the Donald Duck issue with the Christmas for Shacktown
story. I'm referring to the Gladstone comic issues, not the album formats.
Reasons:
Back To Klondike gadstone issue features the Barks painting as the cover.
And i really like the story very very much. The way Donald is drawn as
backgrounds in many panels showing interest/smiling seeing Uncle Scrooge. To
me, it showed that Donald may have understand the softer side of Scrooge
more than anybody else (HDL). Some obvious panels:
- DD smiled when he saw scrooge sighing "goldie, after all these years", the
panel where scrooge just heard from hdl that the lady is goldie.
- DD smiled when he saw Scrooge combing himself to meet Goldie to "collect
IOU" (scrooge's excuse but obviously DD knows better why US combing himself)
- Again DD smiled when he sees US blushed in front of Goldie.
DD's smiles in all those panels arent usual smiles. It's like showing he's
smiling that he was able to see the softer side of his "materialistic"
uncle.
*** Bottomline: One of the best Scrooge story
King of the Klondike: features some references from the Back to Klondike.
Very nice last-page panels. And imho the best chapter in the whole Lo$
series.
Christmas for Shacktown: again, a very nice morale story without too much
preaching easily found in normal stories for children. Feature impostor
Uncle Jake (DD) which suggesting that Scrooge may have a very close
childhood relationship with him.

DCML-Talk:
It's great for us fellow duck fans/donaldists to talk about non-Disney
stuffs. yes, we can find elsewhere to chat about non-Disney stuffs. But i
find it interesting to talk non-Disney stuffs with fellow Disney comics
fans/Donaldists.

Hello all,

I'm not sure if this is the proper way to use this mail-list, but I have the
following question:
A few days ago, some friends of mine returned from a vacation in Italy, and
since they knew that I'm very interested in Disney comics, they brought some
italian comics with them.

Wow!!! These sure were the finest disney comics I -ever- saw! therefor, I
hope that there are some Italian friends on this list willing to help me to
get some more (a LOT, if possible...) of these books.

Anyone who can help me, please contact me privately.

Thanks VERY much in advance!!
