I wonder if it might help if you gave Mickey, at least on the covers,
the look that he carries on more mainstream licensed products -- a
peach-colored face instead of a white one, and the character model
that's used for him in animation, rather than that which is used for him
in comics. (Of course, there are several of each, but you probably get
the idea.)

For that matter, I wonder if that kind of thing -- with all of the
characters, and even on the insides of the books -- would help the
entire line, assuming that one of your goals is still to move it beyond
existing Disney comics fans, into the hands of the mainstream.

I confess that, ponder as I have on the matter, I've hit on nothing
reasonable that readers could do or be asked to do to help a
publisher's efforts - and their own hopes thereby - other than buy,
read, comment and pass the word. However, I lay no claim to having
the final word on that - or even anything close to it.

I'll buy two, to nullify Joe's lack of support 8-)

Seriously... I'm actually much more excited for the Showcase/Essential
idea. I do believe that such thick/cheap paper/black and white books are
so much better than every other format... so I hope you guys will go
ahead with it! (I'd certainly buy a third prestige title too, of
course).

Strange topic I know, but I have an immediate need to
verify the size (height primarily) of issues of
Topolino. A colleague is helping me to construct some
shelving tomorrow that will hold my issues of Topolino
among other things. I want to make certain that we
construct the shelves high enough! My own issues are
still in storage and I've been unable to locate the
boxes containing them. So, I would be very grateful
if one of our Italian DCMLers (or anyone with issues
of Topolino) could confirm that for me.

BTW, I have been silent on the third prestige title
topic because of too many other priorities, but I
definitely would welcome that as an acceptable
alternative to the "on-hiatus" 32 pagers. Still not
certain about this Shonen-jump style. While I'm not
crazy about it, I do seem to remember that earlier
issues of the German digest Lustige Taschenbuch (again
in storage so I can't check) had alternating b/w and
color two-page spreads.

Happy holidays and a healthy and prosperous 2007 to
all the list members,

The height has remained remarkably constant over the decades, at around
185 mm. When I made my own shelving I allowed for 215 mm "floor to
ceiling", just to have the flexibility to move other comics around if
need be; but if you know you're going to have Topolini and nothing else
on those shelves, you can go down to very narrow tolerances---190 mm
would be enough (unless your shelves are so long that they sag
significantly in the middle!).

The width, by the way, has increased slightly, from just under 135 mm in
the 1970s to the 140 mm of today. And the thickness has of course gone
down, though this is due also to a change in paper---issues with the
same number of pages are now (on "magazine" paper) thinner than they
used to be (on "newspaper" paper). But clearly neither of these would
affect the vertical spacing of your shelves.

Best seasonal wishes to you too and family!
