Maybe Scrooge ment he earn his money in a very boring way when he told he made it 'square" ?

PART 5
Duckburg 1956,close to Christmas.
Nothing interesting has happened for about one year now, apart from the death of Blackheart Beagle a few months ago.He died having lived the
incredible amount of 119 years! His grandchildren got over it quickly, since they had known it would inevitably happen soon.
Donald's nephews are now 16.Having hit puberty they don't devote as much time to the Junior Woodchucks as they used to.Their interest is
eventually turning towards more adult things.Hewe has got a sweetheart. The other two are still single.
Anyways, something totally unexpected is going to happen at Donald's house. The door knocks and Lewe goes to open, totally unaware of the
surprise that is to come.He opens. The expression he gets reminds that of Scrooge when he met Matilda one year ago, after 25 years, but it is even
more intense.
Lewe-COME HERE BROS,OUR PARENTS ARE BACK.
Della Duck is standing with a man next to her.He looks like Donald Duck, only he has some brown hair on his head, and also a brown mustache on his
bill.He's Choco Duck,the nephews' father!
The other two nephews and Donald come.Immediately,Lewe and Hewe jump on their parents and drown them in kisses.
Donald-Sis,were have you been? It's been 9 years since you and Choco gave any signs of life.I even thought you might have died!
Della-I know we have no excuses bro.We gutlessly forced you to raise three demons by claiming it would only be for a few days and then
disappearing.
Della looks at Dewe.
Della-My baby, why are you so serious?
Choco-Hehe,don't tell me you're angry because you haven't heard from me and mom lately.
Dewe-LATELY?YOU CALL ONE DECADE LATELY?FACK YOU!
Donald-DEWE.THAT'S NOT THE WAY I RAISED YOU.
Instead of answering,Dewe runs to the room he shares with his two brothers, slamming the door behind him.
Later,in the living room, the other two nephews are sitting with their parents.Donald was discreet enough to leave them alone.
Della-Kids,we want to apologize.
Choco-Back then, when the firework under my chair exploded,me and your mom underwent a terrible mental shock. You really freaked us out.
Della-We...
Choco-No,Della.Let me talk instead, since i originally had the idea to abandon them here.
Choco starts explaining. But,let's see his explanations as a flashback...
1947,in a hospital.Choco is on a bed,tied in bandages.Della is sitting next to him,looking worried.
Choco-Della,i hate to admit it,but, maybe we're not cut out to be parents.Or maybe those specific kids are just too much for us to handle. As much as
i hate myself for that,i'll say it.Perhaps we must ask from someone else to raise them.
Della-As much as i hate myself for that,i'll agree. They need someone more mature than us two, someone who will teach them the right values and
morals.
Choco-But who?
Della-Surely,not my uncle,Scrooge.I've seen him only once, when i was 6.But,just from that once,i can tell their life with him would be a hell.
My mother would be a perfect role model for them. But,she has so much work in the farm.It would be unfair if we also loaded her with three devils.
Choco-How about Gladstone? They'll have a great time with him. He'll be giving them anything they desire, just so they won't be in his feet.
Della-Yeah,but i don't think he'll do good to them that way.With such a guardian,i bet they'll end up fat,watching tv all day,expecting nothing from
their lives.I don't want them to become like that.
End of flashback.Back to the present.
Choco-So,we decided to leave you here. We've heard your uncle has done a great job with your raising and you've evolved into three wonderful lads.
I know our decision was unforgivably immature and,if you don't want to forgive us,we'll accept it.
Hewe-It's ok dad.We were not the easiest kids.Sure there are other naughty kids as well, but that thing we did with the dynamite on the chair is not
something that 7 year old children usually do.You could have been killed!
Lewe-I only hope Dewe will forgive you some day.
So,will Dewe finally accept his parents back?If you want to find out, stay tuned.
Author's note-I made nephew's father look like Donald, because that's how he looked, from what we could see of him in the family tree.I named him
Choco because i gave him brown hair, and also because i like chocolate!

PART 6
It's afternoon. In Donald's kitchen,Della and Choco are having tea with their host.
Donald-You can stay here for as long as you like.I'll try to help you win back Dewe's love.
Della-But,you're poor. Are you sure it's okay if we stay?
Donald-Oh,don't worry.Since i started working in my cousin's business,i have no financial problems.I can afford it now.
Meanwhile,Dewe is out.He's standing on a Duckburg's bridge gazing.Suddenly,he hears a voice behind him.
Lewe-Hey,bro.
Dewe-Hey.
Lewe-So,are you gonna hold this grudge for long?
Dewe-Please,don't talk to me about those bastards.
Lewe slaps him.
Lewe-WAKE UP.
Dewe-LEAVE ME ALONE.
Lewe-NO,I WON'T.You have to see things from their own perspective.Haven't you ever felt any remorse for what we've done?Tell me,what would you
do if our prank with the fireworks had killed our father?Would you be able to live with that weight on your conscience.
Dewe gulps. He doesn't know what to answer.
Lewe-Please,stop doing this to yourself. It will be Christmas soon.
Dewe is finally convinced. They return to the house and an emotional family scene follows. They all together spend a few wonderful days. The nephews
decide that they want to continue staying with Donald.Their parents accept it and the nephews tell them they can visit them whenever they want to.
And Christmas arrives. The whole family, including Choco and Della, celebrates in Scrooge's money bin. That time, the richest duck has spent loads of
money for a great fiesta. You see, last year,he has reconsidered some of his values and stopped overestimating wealth.Maybe he has felt that not
much life is left for him. Most of his old friends/enemies have passed away and he's realized that his turn will come sooner or later.
Hewe's girlfriend is also invited. She's a teen duck with long, brown hair and blue eyes. Her name is Cooky Duck(yeah, she also has the Duck sirname,
any problem with that?).
Cooky runs to Scrooge,as soon as she spots him.
Cooky-Wow,are you really the legendary McDuck? Please, give me an autograph,i beg you.
Hewe appears running behind her.
Hewe-Forgive her uncle.She's too enthusiast.
Scrooge-So,this is your school lover,huh?
Hewe blushes.
Scrooge-Well,maybe i could have also had school love stories, only i never went to school, hehe.
Enough for today.Next time,Scrooge is going to have an unexpected visitor from his recent past. Can you guess who will be?

All this talk about personal canon had me thinking ... what's the personal canon of everyone on this board? Bits and pieces of it have been revealed in this thread and in other threads about various topics, but it might be interesting to consolidate our positions all in one place and see what the majority feeling is.
So, if it were somehow magically your charge to decide what was and was not Duckburg canon (characters and key concepts) from what has been previously published across different continuities, what would your universe look like? You can choose to accept or reject ideas, but not add new ones to fill in gaps. I'm not talking about individual stories here, but broad, overarching themes and characters.
Here's my contribution.
From Barks' work
Would probably accept everything (including Miss Penny Wise); not too fond of April, May and June, though (I only recently learned that Barks created them, but they don't add much to the universe), so I might exclude them. Also, Barks drew many Grandma Duck stories where Jaq and Gus (the mice from Cinderella) lived on her farm, but that creates a lot of anthropomorphic confusion and is best ignored. I'm not sure Barks wrote all those stories, anyway.
From Rosa's work
The only new character he created is the Black Knight, whom I like and have no problem including. I also strongly tend to align with his overall personal history of the Ducks, and support his attempts to create continuity (and I know that many people don't). His portrayal of Scrooge's family of origin is the one I accept as personal canon. However, I disagree with his decision to have Matilda McDuck still be alive (and his view that Hortense probably is, as well). I also would not have Glittering Goldie be a recurring character; Barks just used her once in "Back to the Klondike", and she's most powerful if she is a shadowy figure from the past rather than someone Scrooge can just pick up the phone and call. Also, Blackheart Beagle, at least a generation older than Scrooge, still being alive and active into Scrooge's retirement and "fiftieth anniversary in Duckburg" celebrations, is something I would toss out.
From Scarpa's work
Scarpa seems to be the most prolific artist after Barks in terms of creating new characters and relationships; however, while I enjoy his stories and art, I don't really find any of his major characters endearing. Thus I would exclude Gideon, Brigitta and Dickie Duck. He has probably created many other characters in many other stories that I haven't read, but these are probably his best known ones.
From van Horn's work
On the fence about his singular creation, Rumpus McFowl. What makes him even marginally interesting to me is the hint of scandal surrounding his origin. Otherwise, I wouldn't accept him. Van Horn created a lot of other minor characters (Baron Itzy Bitzy, Voracia Duckworst, Woimly Filcher) that I'd ignore.
From DuckTales
Well, the very premise of the series (Donald in the navy and HD&L living with Scrooge) is, of course, incompatible with the comics universe and will have to be summarily rejected. However, I have nothing against Launchpad, who could still work for Scrooge and be a minor recurring character (in the series, Gyro introduces Launchpad to Scrooge, so stories with Launcpad and Gyro working together would still work). Webby (and therefore, Mrs. Beakley) would have no place. Ditto Ma Beagle and Fenton/Bubba. I could take or leave Doofus. There would be no references to the Darkwing Duck universe.
Miscellaneous
I could accept Fethry, as well as von Drake (wouldn't necessarily make him a relative of Donald's, though, why couldn't he just be a standalone character? I know he was portrayed as Donald's uncle in animation, but that could be safely ignored if one wanted to). I would have no use for characters like Moby Duck, Dimwitty, et. al.

If I were king: everything is canon, including the stuff that hasn't been written or animated yet. (I don't want to restrict anybody -- writer, artist or reader/viewer -- from creating or receiving what they like, just because I don't like it.)
My personal canon as a reader: the stuff I like is canon. The stuff I really dislike isn't.
My personal canon as a writer: the stuff I like is canon. The stuff I really dislike... I simply avoid touching on in my stories.

My personal canon includes not just things that have been published, but my own personal theories.
I include most of Barks' work, except the Hourglass story. A few of Rosa's works are simply unacceptable from a canon perspective, like The Money Pit: The single most egregious violation of Barks' canon ever. Its contradiction of The Secret of Atlantic, and its transparent "Comics speculators suck" annoys me. The ending is outright stupid, and it really is a terrible story. Beyond that? I am fine with pretty much everything you see in the stories...
Except Mickey. In the version of Duckburg I have constructed, Mickey's a real person, detective-ing it up. But he licensed his name and likeness to some comic book company.
The rest of my personal canon comes from the backstory I ascribe to Donald. For example: I see no reason why he wouldn't have been in the Navy during World War II, probably on a noncombat tour. Explains the uniform, anyhow, and how he manages to afford a house on his lousy salary from Scrooge.
I think that Donald has amassed more than enough wealth from "The Crocodile Collector" alone to be financially solvent, but he uses most of his money to pay for the destruction of the town by Scrooge's adventures as a hidden kindness, and what doesn't go towards that goes towards raising the nephews. It solves more than a few plot holes for me.
When it comes to HDL's parents... the adventure I have in mind for when Donald finds the location of his sister, previously presumed dead, and can rescue her? Oh my.
His adventures with The Three Caballeros, prior to settling down in Duckburg, were the stuff of legends. As were his adventures with Mickey and Goofy: Which is how I choose to interpret that one gag from "The Magnificent Seven (Minus Four) Cabelleros."
... man, I would love to write some Duck adventures... ones that stay within the status quo, at that. I wouldn't submit the journey to rescue HDL's parents to the new US publisher! But this pitch... ah. Well. I'll wait until the publisher's announced.
I have my own conclusions for what happens to Scrooge based on Rosa stories, but suffice it to say it's a happy ending that concludes his journey as a character.
I also have no problem with Darkwing Duck being in the Barks/Rosa universe, and boy, do I ever have a story for that too.
This thread is mostly reminding me that I'd love to submit pitches to a publisher.

I personally would prefer that Mickey not exist in Donald's world, and vice versa. They would only meet in animation (and in promotional material, such as advertisements for the comics and on the covers of special commemorative issues of WDC&S, for example). Even Rosa's solution of making him a "fictional character within a fictional universe" doesn't satisfy me. I've always seen Mouseton as a city in the Northeast (rather than in Calisota). I read a suggestion on another forum that it be in the state of Pennecticut (which I've always liked the sound of).

So you're in agreement with the Rosa position of setting all the stories in the 50s-60s, then?

They would only meet in animation (and in promotional material, such as advertisements for the comics and on the covers of special commemorative issues of WDC&S, for example). Even Rosa's solution of making him a "fictional character within a fictional universe" doesn't satisfy me. I've always seen Mouseton as a city on the East Coast (rather than in Calisota).
Quote from user: Review Or DieThe rest of my personal canon comes from the backstory I ascribe to Donald. For example: I see no reason why he wouldn't have been in the Navy during World War II, probably on a noncombat tour. Explains the uniform, anyhow, and how he manages to afford a house on his lousy salary from Scrooge.
So you're in agreement with the Rosa position of setting all the stories in the 50s-60s, then?
I come from DC, so the concept of not using a shared 'universe' is just alien to me. Mickey Mouse, Darkwing Duck, Scrooge, all of it. More story opportunities, y'know?
But yes, my 'personal' Duck canon has it all taking place in the 40s-50s in that wonderful "comic book time". For non-Barks/Rosa stuff, no matter whether I like them or not, and there are a number that I do enjoy, they're Elseworlds tales to me.

Quote from user: Roger NorthI would love to see how the rest of the story turns out.
And i thought nobody is reading this.
PART 7
Duckburg 1958.
Scrooge is sitting in his office, feeling lonely. The nephews are now in college.Donald is quite busy, since he's been promoted to manager in Gladstone's
fast growing chain of shops. His one sister(Hortense)has her husband, whereas the other one(Matilda)is busy with charity organizations.
Scrooge(thinking)-Darn,it's so boring.I wish something happened.
If our hero knew the shock he's about to receive he'd prefer boredom. The guards are terrified to see a familiar figure approaching. The Black Knight!
They all scream in terror.Knowing it would be pointless to try anything on him, they just run away to save themselves. They even forget to activate the
traps.Black Knight reaches out of Scrooge's office without any resistance.Mrs Quackfaster screams in shock.Scrooge runs out and freezes by terror.
Scrooge-Can't be.There is no way you could've got this thing back.
Black Knight-Hehe,time for revenge mr McDuck.I'll obliterate you.
Black Knight is about to touch Scrooge's forehead with his sword.Scrooge closes his eyes, waiting for the end.And then...he just feels the cold blade.
Black Knight takes off the helmet and the face of Arsin Lupene appears. He bursts into laughter.
Arsin-I can't believe you all fell for that.
Scrooge-ASHOLE.I could have died of a heart attack.
Arsin-Don't be so mean.It was only a clever joke.
Scrooge-What do you want here anyway?
Arsin-Well,i was bored in my tower and thought of visiting my old, worthy foe.
Scrooge-Are you serious? We're not pals or something.
Arsin-Come on.Don't tell me you still hold a grudge, just because i wanted to ruin your fortune and damaged your bin and almost killed your nephew.
Can you hate me just because of those minor things?
Scrooge is mad by Arsin's attitude. But,next moment,he thinks that he's alone and bored,so...he smiles.
Scrooge-Come in my office. We can talk there.
Later,Scrooge and Arsin are having a pleasant conversation. They're laughing and looking to get along.
Scrooge-By the way,Arsin, how come you no longer have French accent?
Arsin-Well,that's mainly because the writer of this fanfic didn't want to bother writing my lines that way.
Scrooge-Arsin,i can see that we have much common ground.First of all,you love adventure as much as i do.
Arsin-You bet.And i envy you for all the wonderful times i assume you were having while searching for your treasures.
Scrooge-Well,my nephews were with me all those times. But,last years, they're busy, having moved forward with their lives.I feel like i no longer
belong to their worlds.I feel like i've ''expired''.
Arsin-I understand you.Me too,i miss the emotions that my career as an ingenious thief offered me.
Scrooge-Hey,i know. Why don't we go for an adventure together?
Arsin-What?Really?Can you trust me that much?
Scrooge-Listen,dear Lupene. It's been many years since i last managed to keep the treasure i had found. But,i don't get depressed over that. What i'm
really interested in is the journey, the adventure.I have concluded that this is the real treasure, not the gold, diamonds etc
Arsin-Mr McDuck,i couldn't have said it any better myself.I'm honored that i've met you in this life.
Scrooge-Likewise Arsin.
So,the two ex enemies are now comrades. They're going to have many adventures together over the following years, but i'm not going to show them.
This is a fanfic focused on character development issues.Besides, even if i wanted to,i can't write an adventurous story.I don't have Barkses talent and
of course,i'm nowhere near Rosa's genius.
The next episode will take place in 1967 and it will be about...well,you can guess.
And i thought nobody is reading this.

Hey, I've been reading it as well.
I have a bit of criticism, though: why don't we hear much about Miss Typefast/Quackfaster, Clerkly, Magica De Spell, Grandma, Gus Goose or Daisy?
And I wish you'd have had HDL date April, May and June.
