I'd like to throw in my 2 cents (or euros, for the EU folks) on the passing of Bruce Hamilton. It is to Mr. Hamilton that I owe my interest in Disney comics, not just because of the Gladstone line, but also due to the CARL BARKS LIBRARY project from Another Rainbow. Even before "Gladstone 1" blasted off in '86, I had purchased several sets of the CBL and had become hooked on Barks' world for good. "Gladstone 2" was a far bumpier ride, aesthetically speaking -- and, despite Disney's continual interference, a number of the jolts were self-inflicted -- but Hamilton should be remembered with affection for stepping forward and resurrecting the American Disney comic at a time when no one else was willing to do so. RIP, Bruce.

I remember Bruce

Thought that I should wade in on the Bruce Hamilton Tribute. You either
loved him or didn't! Sure he could be gruff, irascible, cranky and
opinionated. But that was Bruce (sort of like Scrooge!) Bruce was one of
the major movers-and-shakers in the first decades of comicbook fandom.
Bruce's relentless promotional skill and enthusiasm was also one of the
driving factors
that enabled Carl Barks to fully benefit both financially and enjoy
the spotlight that he so richly deserved. Bruce made things happen.

My condolences to his wife Helen. A nicer, sweeter person would be hard
to find. She was definitely the Ying to Bruce's Yang! I'm sorry that
Bruce will not be around to finish his "comic art museum" that was being
built at
his home. I was looking forward to visiting and viewing his tremendous
collection.

Plain and simple, without Bruce, I don't think that there would have
been a Disney comicbook Renaissance in the United States.

We will all miss him.

It is a little difficult to find artwork of Brazilian Disney artists though. We have some Brazilians listed, but the art samples are mainly covers. Could any of you help us with some better art samples from Brazilian Disney comics?
I also would like some art scans of these Brazilian artists, who haven't got an entry yet:
Dave Santana, Paulo R. C. Noely, Seung Joo Kang

Of the following Italians, I have biographies, but no pictures:
Mario Sbattella, Bruno Dettoni, Leonardo Gagliano, Sostene Granata, Ernesto Piccardo, Roberto Revello, Giancarlo Tonna
(and then there are many more Italian artists not included yet, I know)

I'm also looking for an art sample of Larry Knighton, who drew the Donald Duck daily in 1990.

Webbed Contest 1: Tribute to Carl Barks (Summer 2005)
*****************************************************

The first annual webbed contest celebrates the 2nd
year of the successful return of Disney comics in the
US, and is meant as a tribute to the best Disney
author: Carl Barks.

Rules

* All participants should bow to the rules
* Excerpts of stories by Carl Barks are published
on this site regularly, and a message with a link to
this page is sent simultaneously to the DCML mailing
list every time a new image is "published".
* By "story by Carl Barks" we mean any item that
is indexed as a Disney comic story and is credited (at
least in part) to Carl Barks in the Inducks Disney
Comics Database. The image may be taken from any
publication worldwide.
* The goal of the contest is to identify the story
the image comes from. To do this, you have to send an
email to the DCML with the Inducks code of the story
(or title if it is unique in all of Barks' comics),
the page and panel numbers. As soon as someone
responds correctly, a new image is posted.
* The published image will be more and more
difficult to identify, and the contest closes when no
correct answer has been given in a one week period.
* The winner of the contest is the first person
who answered correctly the last but one question. In
the unlikely event that no one gives a correct answer,
the prize will be kept for next year summer 2006
webbed contest. In the other unlikely event that a
correct answer is given 10 times successively, the
winner is the one who answered the tenth question.
* The winner will get a prize at the next Rapallo
comic-book festival at the Domina Astoria Hotel. If
not present, the prize will be given to our friend N.
G. who will mail it to the winner. If no address is
available, the prize will be kept for next year summer
2006 webbed contest.

The rules are not made to be fair in any way (whatever
that term exactly means). If you find a smart trick
that allow you to win at no cost, you're the winner
with mention "best abuse of the rules" (of course
we'll change the rules for next year, so that a trick
can not be used once more).
