called "european plaice" in english. A common european flatfish.

Couldn't it be that since the Danish "Gr?nsp?tte" (=Junior Woodchuck)
already existed when they were about to give a Swedish name to the
Chickadees, they just used that ("Danish") word. There is not any
significant phonetic difference between "sp?tte" (da) and "sp?tta" (se).
In Danish we also have a "R?dsp?tte", which in principle could translate
to "Red Woodpecker", only it doesn't. Instead it is the flounder (fish)
that was mentioned earlier on, a relative small, flat type with red
dots. However, that is the only Danish "sp?tte" which is a fish, the
rest are woodpeckers, while in Sweden they are all fish, so in order to
make it a bird(!?) you used "Gr?ng?lingarna". Luckily "g?lingarna" has
no meaning in Danish--that would have been too much! :-)

Hi,
It's been a while since I posted. When my computer wasn't screwed up, I been
reading the various discussions.
Anyhow, I'd like to ask some input. Aside from being a longtime fan of Disney,
especially the basic characters of the Mouse, Duck and Dawg variety, I'm also a
longtime fan of Marvel Comic's FANTASTIC FOUR.
I've been toying with the idea of a sort of "blending" of the two genre, but
basically staying within the Universes of Mouseton & Duckburg rather than the
"real world" of New York City.
In that light I've re-imagined light-hearted vision of Mickey, Minnie, Donald,
Goofy, Daisy, Pluto, Figaro, Pete and Mortimer into analogs of Mister Fantastic,
Invisible Woman, Human Torch, The Thing, Crystal, Lockjaw, Ebony (Agatha
Harkness' cat), Doctor Doom & the Sub-Mariner.
Thus:
Mickey, gaining super-elasticity, becomes "Malleable Mouse,"
Minnie gains super-shrinking and flying powers as "Mini,"
Donald can 'flame on' and become "Duck Flamb?",
Goofy gains super muscular strength, but remains dim-witted as "Dumbbell,"
Daisy gains the power to control all kinds of flora as... well, "Daisy,"
Pluto can teleport himself and others as "Tele-Pup,"
and Figaro can transform into an adult panther and has a sonic roar...
I haven't figured out what to call him though... maybe if I knew an Opera related
Italian term for "belting out a high note" or something???
As a Super Group they call themselves "THE FAB FIVE" (plus 2).
Pete doesn't gain any new powers, but he takes advantage of the opportunity to
create a new villainous disguise as "Despot Pete" and Mortimer Mouse (Monty
Rodent) becomes "Sub-Mortimer" with the ability to breathe underwater.
I'm pretty sure that, even though Disney creative types have utilized similar
homages, such as "Spider-Mouse" a la Spider-Man, as well as homages to Batman,
Superman, etc., I won't hold my breath that I'll be seeing the "Fab Five" in a
Disney Comic anytime soon. Ah well...
This idea has been long in the back of my mind, and I finally sat down and began
working out the finer details. I'd love some input on names and other ways of
using these concepts.

The Bill Wright info was fascinating! Thank you for sharing it with us.
It's hard to believe that someone as talented as Wright had to resort to
printing his own publicity booklets in an effort to drum up work.
How did this man not have, at the very least, a life long situation with
Western Publishing? My love for Paul Murry's work is well documented in many
places, but I still feel that Bill Wright was the best Mickey Mouse North
American comic book artist (...and when I say "comic book artist", of course that
excludes Floyd Gottfredson).
Look no further than "The World Under the Sea" or "Spooks Island" -- both
recently reprinted by Gemstone -- for proof.
I can only imagine how much greater the Mickey comic books of the 1950-1970s
would have been if Paul Murry handled the WDC&S serials and Bill Wright did
at least the adventure leads in the "regular" MM comic book -- in much the
same way Carl Barks handled Donald in WDC&S while Tony Strobl did most of
Donald's "regular" series! Having Murry AND Bill Wright... how wonderful!
Wright DID return to Mickey comics for a brief time in the '70s, but it sure
would have been sweet to have seen his art all the way through! And to have
had more to enjoy when he was in his prime!

Just thought Id inform you all that in this years xmas papers from "fem
f?rlag" (five publishers) edition I found as number 118. => The Artfolder Of
Don Rosa. 129 SEK.
(xmas papers are books, papers, calenders, CDs etc with xmas themes that
kids sell around this time to make xtra money)
It includes an "elegant art folder" (seems to be dark with the silhouette of
scrooge, with his hans on the cane, against a gold circle and the text "Arty
Duck" above and the Don Rosa signature under) and four 205x305 mm posters
from the Scrooge 60 year anniversary.
The posters are :
The shoeshiner (skoputsaren)
The money bin (pengabingen)
Dear no 1 (K?ra NR. 1)
Achenemy Flinthearth Glomgold (?rerivalen Guld-Ivar Flinthj?rta)
Just a thought for those of you (like me) that didnt get your hands on the

Would anyone know what is happening with the sales of Disney Comics here
in the U..S.? Have sales stayed steady, or have they dropped off without
any new Don Rosa stories?
Gemstone's marketing, like their predecessors' attempts, I find most
curious. We have discussed this before, but you cannot find Uncle
Scrooge or WDCS in major book stores like B. Dalton or Border's. You can
find Archie in such places along with the superhero stuff, but nothing
else. "Manga" has a whole mini-library!

Someone asked how to buy Disney comics in arabic.
According to Inducks there are a few Egyptian titles on the market. How
many countries are these distributed to?
Are there any other arabic-speaking countries issuing Disney comics at the
moment?
And does anybody know how to buy these, if you are located in Europe?
