In THE LIFE AND TIMES OF SCROOGE MCDUCK COMPANION, Don Rosa states
that the "inception" (if you will) for "Dream of a Lifetime" came from
a suggestion made by a fan. He also says that he happened to stumble
across THE CELL on television after "Dream..." had been published. He
checked and found THE CELL had been released about one month before he
got the suggestion from the fan and that that may or may not be a
coincidence.
I find the whole thing amusing. There's even a link to scans of
"Dream..." on the INCEPTION FAQ page on IMDB. I'm sure Don would be
the first to tell you that his was not the first story of people
entering someone else's dreams. There's also DREAMSCAPE from 1984,
it's the subject of a SPONGEBOB episode and even Bugs Bunny entered
Elmer Fudd's dreams in THE BIG SNOOZE back in 1946, and I'm sure even
that's not the earliest example.
At the very least it's getting attention for Don's work.

I could easily be wrong, but I believe the earliest record of this
idea relates to the Platonic "Cave" from which the dreamer must exit
in order to fully participate in life, the cave often used as a
metaphor for projected fears and imaginings that keep their originator
trapped within their own cloistered world of misapprehension.
Certainly the Christian New Testament is filled with parables
instructing its adherents that extension into the greater world and
engagement with it reaps greater worth than simply hiding or
sequestering because of fear of loss. And so on...

I found Inception to be derived from The Matrix movies mainly.
Polish author Jan Potocki, writing in French, produced one of the greatest books ever in this or any genre, over 200 years ago: The Manuscript Found At Saragossa. Like Inception, it uses a "Russian doll" or "Chinese box" technique, where you end up in a story, which is inside another story, which is inside yet another story.
Mysterious, dramatic, and at times hilarious, Potocki's book deserves to be known more today! Like Don Rosa's and Carl Barks' stories!

Yeah, among the first flowerings of that new state of affairs. One can't help wondering if this is the beginning of bringing all Disney comics in-house. Or not. Marvel may now be owned by Disney but it isn't really Disney, and how well it's incorporated into the overall Disney scheme of things remains an open question. DC and Warner, for instance, have been a very long time getting at all cozy with each other, and they still seem to have something of a testy relationship.

This is a special (and desperate) request to all fellow Greek chaps out there: I've recently been reminded of a 3-part story that I had once read in Greece in 1967 from ???? ????? #47-49, "?? ???? ??? ????????." It's been reprinted in ???? ????? #590 (1977), ???? ????? #1182 (1989), and ??????? ??????? #146 (1997), under a different title there, "?? ???? ??? ????????." Does anyone have any of these issues that one would be willing to part with for a price? Shipping would be to the USA. This was the first Disney story I had ever read at age 9 and I haven't seen it since. I would love to read this story again. Any input to help me locate a copy of this story would be greatly appreciated.
