access to email. I remember that a long time ago (even before the DCML
existed) I posted paper mail to Dana Gabbard (then editor of fanzine The
Duckburg Times, now sadly deceased), and I included my email address on the
off chance he could use that.
My email adress back then was of an ancient format ? a UUCP "bang path" not
usable today ?

Anyway, he didn't know what that was for, so he faithfully included it on a
line of the envelope of his (paper) answer to me, probably thinking that
Swedish zip codes looked really strange! :-)
Things have changed so much! More people getting access to email meant a
lot for international Disney comics fandom, and that eventually a mailing
list for that would be created was just a matter of time. I was glad to be
there, and to do that earlier than it would have happened otherwise. I had
thought about it for some time, but wasn't sure there would be enough
members or traffic to make it worthwhile.
One of the inspirations for thinking that it might work was the already
existing "ranger-list" about The Disney Afternoon on television, which I
joined even though I had limited exposure to most of the series discussed
there. That list was managed by Stephanie da Silva who also managed a list
of "Publicly Accessible Mailing Lists". It was nice to see our new list
"disney-comics" appear on that list!

Hello Per,
I just wanted to say thank you for your amazing efforts in organizing and sustaining this mailing list, which meant so much to so many of us "back in the day".? I doubt that many (if any at all) of the people who are reading this note will remember me, but reading and posting to the list were highlights of my leisure activities in the 1990s (along with reading Disney comics, of course!).? For the life of me I can't remember how I wound up belonging to the list - I had been wandering around the ARPAnet since the 1970s, as part of my job - but I am indeed grateful that it happened, since it allowed me to become part of an enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and talented fandom community!? I looked forward to each new digest, where I could learn so much about Disney comics history from experts such as Per and David Gerstein, enjoy the amazing insights and side-splitting humor from Harry Fluchs (I hope I am remembering his last name correctly), and of course appreciate the behind-the-scenes news from pros such as John Lustig and Don Rosa.? (I am of course omitting far too many names, of people whose contributions to the list were invaluable, so I apologize to any of them who may happen to read this.)
Two of my most memorable experiences in fandom occurred within a month or so of each other in 1996, first when I attended a 95th birthday dinner for Carl Barks at Diamond Comics (the only time I ever met Carl) and then when I was able to share memories (and bling) from that event at a breakfast get-together of about 20 DCML members (including letterer Todd Klein!) at the San Diego Comic-Con.? And of course I shall always be grateful to the list for its making it possible for me to have a role in the creation of a Disney comic book, when I was able to provide Don Rosa with some scientific guidance about how to get to the earth's core in the story that became "The Universal Solvent".? (I was a seismologist, so I was the DCML's resident expert on "Beneath the Ground".)? As thanks for my ideas, Don sent me the Xerox copies of his pencils for the story, and of course I would never have been able to experience that thrill if it were not for the List.? So I just wanted to express my thanks to Per for all that the DCML has meant to me, both as a reader and as a participant!
So it's time to say good-bye, but most of all to say "thanks".? You da' man, Per!!!

My first post here is from November 2002. I used hotmail instead of gmail
(the latter wasn't a thing yet).
At that time a lot of people were very active (someone unfortunately is not
anymore with us), even Don Rosa would answer to questions! This is the last
mailing list I was subscribed to, truly a relic of a bygone era!

I joined the DCML in 2003. After the "Golden Age" of the 90s, but it
didn't seem that way to me. It was great to be able to read the insights
of so many knowledgeable fans who came from so many different countries
and had such varied areas of expertise/interests.
It was amazing to be able to read the thoughts of and talk with creative
people such as Don Rosa, Gary Leach, Byron Erickson, David Gerstein,
Lars Jensen, Travis Seitler, Jonathan H. Gray and others.
Writers/historians such as Donald Ault, Alberto Beccatini, Frank Stajano
and Didier Ghez.
I think of fans such as Dan Shane, Eta Beta, Rob Klein, Francois Willot,
Gilles, Fernando Ventura, Fabio Blanco, Harry Fluks, Theresa Wiegert,
Steven Rowe, Kriton Kyrimis, Olivier, Mads Jensen, Stefan Persson, Kai
Saarto, Joe Torcivia, Katie Sullivan, and so many others.
Meeting and talking with Don Rosa at DragonCon, getting a few letters
published in some issues of the Gemstone run, sending Didier Ghez a
recording of a Floyd Gottfredson interview via FTP over a Disney Brazil
website, presenting a paper about Don Rosa's Captain Kentucky at an
academic conference, getting an English issue of the Finnish Donaldist
magazine from Timo Ronkainen, buying Another Rainbow Carl Barks Library
sets from Jim Chadwick. All things directly or indirectly due to the DCML.
It was a special place that will live on in the memories of those who
knew it.

Here I must be subscribed to at least a couple other lists and there are
a few more where I don't receive messages by e-mail but that is because
I'm subscribed to these using a network news to/from e-mail gateway.

Per and all,
Thanks for supporting this mailing list for over 30 years.
I joined DCML in December of 1993 shortly after I got this e-mail address. After many years of limited contact with other Disney Comics fans, it was great to find so many on this list. I learned a lot on this list I wouldn't have found from other sources at the time.
While active in the list in the early years, I drifted away from Disney Comics as other distractions entered my life and diminishing eyesight made reading comics difficult. I still checked in on the list, however, to see what was new.

Thanks for supporting this mailing list for over 30 years.
I joined DCML in December of 1993 shortly after I got this e-mail address. After many years of limited contact with other Disney Comics fans, it was great to find so many on this list. I learned a lot on this list I wouldn't have found from other sources at the time.
While active in the list in the early years, I drifted away from Disney Comics as other distractions entered my life and diminishing eyesight made reading comics difficult. I still checked in on the list, however, to see what was new.
It's been a great run, and I will miss the posts on the lists, though infrequent in recent years.
