Topic: Scrooge McDuck 'Mickey and Friends' artwork

I've been searching for a suitable character image of Scrooge McDuck, and I recently came across this image in the web:
http://img2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20131209011906/disney/images/6/66/Posters-walt-disney-poster-mickey-and-friends-36-x-24-inches_7230_500.jpg
It's one of those 'Mickey and Friends'artworks, usually not something particularly interesting to me. However, I really like the Scrooge in this production; especially the use of light/shadow is quite impressive. It seems like this artwork is made of of different character images put together in one picture. Does anybody know where I can find that particular Scrooge in a seperate image, so without all the additions in the picture above? If anybody knows where to find another 'Mickey and Friends' artwork of Scrooge, please tell me!

I just like to use this ocasion to mention that Scrooge appear in newest Mickey Mouse cartoon (voice by Alan Young) titled "Goofys first love". Nice to see him being used in modern cartoons. I hope he will appear more in future cartoons...

I was glad to see Scrooge in the series as well! I just love how the series brings back some of my very favourite Disney characters, including Ludwig Von Drake, José Carioca and now Scrooge McDuck as well. I've added some pictures of Scrooge in "Goofy's first love" to the Disney wiki: http://disney.wikia.com/wiki/Goofy%27s_First_Love , for those interested in Scrooge's design.

It's especially nice to see Donald and Scrooge interacting in animation as themselves rather than as fictional characters. It hasn't happened very often. Outside of DuckTales, the only time I can recall them appearing together as uncle and nephew is in the "Once (and Twice) Upon a Christmas" specials and the "House of Scrooge" episode of "House of Mouse" (where, if I remember correctly, they barely have any scenes together). Donald doesn't appear in "Scrooge McDuck and Money", the "Raw Toonage" Scrooge short or in "Soccermania" (except as a picture on a wall), and in "Mickey's Christmas Carol" (where Donald actually says "Uncle Scrooge" for the first time on screen, although ironically, he's referring to Ebenezer Scrooge and not Scrooge McDuck) and "Midsummer Night's Dream", they're both essentially actors playing roles. More Scrooge-Donald dynamics in the cartoons is welcome.

Which episode did Ludwig appear in?

Which episode did Ludwig appear in?

He appeared in the season 2 episode "Down the Hatch" (voiced by Corey Butron).

Hey, Gyro's in that one too!
And ... Professor Ecks?

That's right!
I had the honor of interviewing series developer Paul Rudish for a Disney twenty-three issue awhile ago. This involved my visiting the Walt Disney TV Animation offices, where I noticed volumes of the Floyd Gottfredson Library lying around here and there. I was assured that Ecks' appearance was no coincidence...

That's true In both Christmas movies and "House of Mouse" Scrooge doesn't interact with Donald, just HD&L and Mickey.
Again - I have quiet hopes we might see Scrooge again in the new Mickey cartoons...

BTW - I think it was interesting that they used Scrooge as a villain in "Mickey Moue Around the world in 80 days" ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xiOVolycV_g ), it's fun to hear Alan Young playing Scrooge acting much more sinister, but here again he was playing a character... but then again they did refer him by the name "Scrooge McDuck" rather by using the name of any of the businessmen Fogg made the bet with in the book (then again none of the names are used here)

I wonder why, when Scrooge portrays fictional characters in animation, he's generally depicted with his "bald and gray" look (the fringe of hair/feathers(?) is colored gray and encircles his head, giving it the appearance of male pattern baldness, similar to Ludwig) but when he's playing himself, he has the whiskery look (appears to have sideburns that are white and do not extend backwards).

When I first saw the "bald and gray" look in Mickey's Christmas Carol, I attributed it to animators' unfamiliarity with the character, but that excuse hardly holds for post-DuckTales releases like Around the World in 80 Days, for example.

Coming back to Scrooge's appearance in Goofy's First Love, it was clearly extraneous, adding nothing of substance to the storyline (if these shorts can be considered to have such a thing as a "storyline"), but the very fact that he's even there suggests that we'll see him again in a more meaningful capacity. I love how these cartoons are drawing from varied sources such as Barks, Gottfredson, classic shorts and animated movies. I just wish they'd given Goofy pants!

Scrooge also had such a haircut in Scrooge McDuck and Money, Mickey's Once Upon a Christmas and Mickey's Twice Upon a Christmas, in which he didn't portray a fictional character. I personally quite like these slightly altered versions of Scrooge's design in animation; it's always nice to see artists/animators adding their own 'touch' to the picture, while still keeping the character recognizable. Additionally, that fringe of hair seems to add something threedimensional to the picture.

I agree; Scrooge's role could have been taken over by any rich guy (in fact, Scrooge isn't even named in the cartoon; Donald just refers to him as "my rich uncle") or completely left out of the picture (even though I'm, of course, glad he wasn't!).

I also think there's quite a good chance Scrooge will reappear in the series, primarily because I find it hard to believe that Alan Young was casted to voice only one sentence in the entire series. Also really hope Ludwig will return (maybe even alongside Scrooge! The two characters didn't appear alongside each other in any cartoon besides A Midsummer Night's Dream from Mickey Mouse Works).

Honestly I don't think Scrooge scene in "Goofy's first love" would work if it was any other character. Even if we don't known Scrooge the fact his Donald's uncle and Donald is so casual about asking him for million dollars just to get kick-out work for comedy better if he would just go to some random rich guy (and it's extra funny when we know who Scrooge is and how cheap he is). I think it was funny running gag the way they where constantly smashing into his house and it was nice to see him in the church on the end.
I love how confident Donald is in the scene btw.
I think it would be a bad move if this was first Scrooge appearance on the show and they would gave him a main role in the story. But even if it will be his only appearance I think he works as a supporting player here very well.

One character I hope to see in the future (since we got Gyro) is Gladstone Gander ;)

I finally came across an image with the complete artwork of Scrooge on the web:

Now, does anybody know how I can possibly remove the background of this image, to make a clipart version of Scrooge? Or that a clipart version of this artwork is available anywhere else?

I just can't get into the new Mickey Mouse cartoons. The animation style, even the storytelling style just doesn't do anything for me.
Personally, I loved what Disney did with "How to Hook Up Your Home Theater." It captured that 1940s look and used modern technology. I would love to see more of that.

You can easily remove the background in something like Photoshop, Scroogerello. I could do it for you if you want.

If you manage to find time to do so, I'd really appreciate it if you edited it for me, Gooey98. You see, I've never been that good at editing photos and my Photoshop skills are tragically limited as well...;)
