Italian "Topolino" magazine was planing to have this cover as tribute to The Charlie Hedbo massacre :

In my opinion is the best way to address the issue. I pays honors to the people who where killed but also has pro-integration/anti-racist/"let's just all get along and be friends despite our cultural differences" message to it.
I'm all for the world peace promoting subtext so I have great respect for whoever came up with the cover (Plus the drawing in general looks wonderful!!!!!)
But sadly... despite showing the cover the magazine apparently decided that addressing the incident is to controversial and they replace it with a generic Goofy cover last minute :(

Ow, well... Still, looks pretty great! (the cover they where planing)
P.S.
I like to thank my Italian friend Eros Laguardia for the information.
P.S. 2.
I pray we won't get into some political flame war (I have enough of that on facebook thank you very much)
P.S. 3
I ment "trbiute" in the title obviously... ;)

Oh, it's true.
I still don't understand this change.
But... I'm digitally subscribed and in that Topolino there's the cover with pencils!
I don't know if they'll print that Topolino with Goofy or with the pencils... Bit I still hope: in Internet, there's a Panini Comics' comunique that says the cover will be changed 'cause Donald and Mickey aren't in character. But... In the Panini Comics official site, there are no comuniques. The Topolino's official facebook pace has shown the new cover, but they haven't changed profile photo... Why?
I don't know but I hope.

Turconi did one of the variant covers for the first issue of Disney's Ultraheroes in 2010. I loved the cover---even though Goofy looked a bit stiff---because it copied the pose of Superman lifting a car full of gangsters on the cover of the first issue of Action Comics (1938). You can see it at http://acomicbookblog.com/2010/02/cover-of-the-week-february-3-2010/
As for the new Topolino cover, why is Goofy still toting the old flash camera that he bought in 1942?

^Well, old technology is much more fun to draw. It'd take quite the cartoonist to make an iphone look interesting on the page.

From what I understand this cover was originally made for series of stories which feature Goofy in the past as an Italian reporter. It was used before only now they removed the background and made Goofy bigger. The issue will feature story where Goofy meets Alessandro Volta the physicist who invent battery (and apparently every time we say "volt" we make a pun on his name)

It's based on the "Pippo Reporter" series, where Goofy is a reporter in the USA of the '20s.
This month they are reprinting the first stories in the "Definitive Edition" line and, I guess, they used the replace cover as AD for it.
the Volt measure unit is, in fact, based on Alessandro Volta's surname. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volt
