Dear Friends,
First of all a brief introduction. My name is Aaron, I am Italian and I live in Los Angeles, California. I have always been a big fan of Disney Comics, since I was 6 years old. I remember going to my local newsstand shop every Tuesday or Wednesday to wait for my Topolino.
I have to admit that my love for Disney comics faded away a little bit when I grew up and it was replace by the love for Marvel comics, which I bought in their Italian edited version and then in their original versions.
Recently I have been to Italy for Christmas and there I bought one issue of I Grandi Classici (a sort of collection of the best Disney stories) and my passion for Mickey and company immediately came back.
I would love to get some new Topolino and I was wondering if there is any store here in the US which sells the Italian Topolino. I checked the price for Disney's subscription plans but it's too expensive, $200+shipping for one year of Topolino.

You might try and ask the Italian publisher - abbonamentidisney(at)mondadori.it - what they charge for an overseas subscription. I doubt, however, that it will be substantially less expensive.

Or you can try to find an Italian comic shop. They can collect a few issues and ship it together. So you save shipping costs.

David, you are right, it is a good offer in general. What troubles me is that if you subscribe to Topolino in Italy, you pay only $95/year. Paying $200 more just for airmail shipment seems too much to me :-(

Consider also that each issue of prestige format Gemstone comics (WDC and U$) costs $7.99 and they are only 64 pages long. Each issue of Topolino contains more pages (160, including articles etc.) and it's less expensive! The quality of the Weekly is still quite good. A great artist still working for Topolino is Casty, four of his "Mickey Mouse" stories were serialized also in the USA in WDC #703-714 (2010) and Americans too have enjoyed his stories. His stories are considered among the best currently published in Topolino http://www.papersera.net/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?num=1326716579/70#70 . Well said. I should add that some of the (relatively) new Italian artists are great in their own way. I'll admit that they're an acquired taste. But as I mentioned earlier, I prefer innovation and individual style and not at all a fan of conventions in Disney comics. Because of that, all of my favourite artists have very distictive and easily recognizable styles, although far removed from the genre's conventions (may be deemed as too "un-Disney" or too experimental by some). Among them Silvia Ziche (ain't she great?), Stefano Intini, Corrado Mastantuono, Fabio Celoni, Graziano Barbaro and many others... that is, not to mention all of that great Brazilian stuff I am a fan of, but we're talking Italian comics here.

Depends on your level of acceptance of such things, I guess... I would never do this, but then I am old-fashioned. If it's much cheaper and you don't mind digital comics, then I suppose it might be worthwhile to give it a try.

It's been intriguing finding this old post of mine. Two years have passed and I still have not subscribed to the Italian Topolino. At the same time, I just gifted my mom (who still lives in Italy) with a subscription to Paperino Mese. She loves Disney comics and in some way she was the one who made me love them as well.
