Hi guys, thought some of you might want the updated news on Lo$ Indo so here goes:
After being advertised as july 1st release, the actual comic books hit the stores in july 6th.

The Lo$ will be split to 7 books, which will be completed in September.

The 1st series consists of chapter 0, 1, and 2, which will 90% means the other B chapters will be slipped between the normal chapters. The downsides are:
- no mention whatsoever of Don as the series creator
- the newspaper-like paper, cheap quality one, not magazine quality
- any mentions of the first dime is translated as "first coin" and "lucky coin"

Thanks, Roger, but the only problem I saw in Chisel McSue's description is that this will be printed on cheap newspaper-like paper. Is that what you're referring to? That's hardly butchering the stories. To me, "butchering" is when they remove lots of panels -- perhaps even full pages -- from a story. Or have it partially redrawn or rewritten in an obvious manner.

Thank you for the answer, Roger. But I can't see Don's texts mentioned in Chisel McSue's original post. Perhaps Indonesia will use them in their books. Who knows?

On further inspections, the paper weren't too bad actually. they kinda look like those A4 printing papers for office/document purpose.

Don's articles while could be nice for inclusion, not needed. Yes, they didnt print Don's article. But here's why i think it's not needed in Indonesian version. It's because Don told us about the story behind each chapter making's and the Barks references inside. Those Barks' references will be interesting to collectors and hardcore fans but will mean little to mainstream (children etc?). the fact that Barks stories rarely printed in the recent decade, helps that having reference to a story that was printed 20 years ago or not even printed yet in Indonesia, will do no good than creating puzzles for new readers.

The ones that I just have problem with are:
No Don's name mentioned. Perhaps in the other series in form of an article.
The B Chapters inclusion within the normal 12-chapter structure. Although I can understand why they do it. If the normal 12 chapters were to be finished in first 4 books and the additional chapters in subsequent 3 books, mainstream readers might or might not buy the subsequent books cause they won't be must-have. I am assuming the Gemstone's Lo$ TPB sales > Lo$ companion sales because on eBay the normal Lo$ TPB fetch higher prices than the Companion ones.

And the Lucky Coin/Lucky Dime translations, they prolly do it to make it smoother with other European Disney stories where they often refer it to Lucky Dime. But gee, since chapter 12 Scrooge is offended when Donald mentioned Lucky Dime, I wonder how the publisher gonna fix it when in book 1 it shows young Scrooge calling his 1st dime as Lucky Coin.

Aside from those issues and some translation problems (american jokes kinda hard to translate to Indonesia), the reception is pretty good. Most of the stores sold out on this title and the online (Indonesian) community discussing this book a lot. Which probably makes me thinking that if Boom gonna make it big in the United States, they should cater the mainstream readers 1st, the collectors/hardcore later. Cause that's what it's all about, creating a new interest to a whole new (younger) generation of readers, not sparking renewed interest among the select few. I don't like it too but hey, as long as they keep Disney Comics a decent popular title to choose here, why the heck not do the same in US.
