Hello, my name's David, and I'm a 38 year old duck fan who's trying to track down the title of an old story. It is, I believe, an Uncle Scrooge story, maybe Barks, which features Scrooge, Donald and the nephews in a middle eastern setting. The story ends with a character in robe and turban crumbling into dust, I believe crawling onto the ground and then fading away into a pile, possibly after aging rapidly. That's the only image I've got left in my head from reading this comic as a child, it was in one of the Whitman/Gold Key Disney comics from the the 1970s I believe. I've been trying to figure out for the past few years what story it is, I had a gigantic box of old Disney comics that disappeared during a move, and it's a book I'm hoping to replace one day. Any help would be much appreciated, thank you very much.

The finished artwork had pencils by Tony Strobl and the inking was done by (in my estimation) a poor inker. So, despite Barks having written the story and drawn the storyboards, the artwork doesn't look very good. Artist, Ullrich Schröder finished Barks art and inked on 10 of the 24 pages in the late 1980s (?). One half page of that group was printed in "The Carl Barks Library". But, recently, for Egmont's "The Carl Barks Collection", Daan Jippes finished Barks' art and inked the full story. It will eventually be printed in comic books, as well. I can't wait to see that version. Barks drew the original cover for the 1967 US Gold Key issue.
Rob, the Jippes version was published in Danish Donald Duck in three parts, in number 4-5-6/2009. It was great! Much better artwork that Strobl´s version.

Btw, I liked the story by you and Frank Jonker (art: Javier Sacaduras) in the Danish weekly number 1/2008 (29th of December). Story code: H 25231. In Danish it was called "Too Many Medals". It was a Junior Woodchucks story where Donald tries to play a trick on the kids. Was that a new story of yours?

We wrote that story in 2005. I don't like Secuderas' artwork. I'd rather have had Mau or Bas Heijmans or Sander Gulien have drawn it. Can you pick up extra copies of the 3 Anders And issues with Jippes' version for me? It will be a year or more until it's printed in The Netherlands. Jeg læser lille Dansk.
I see. Yes, I would have preferred the Heyman brothers and Sander Gullien too. The drawing of Donald on page two, panel four, certainly looks a bit weird. The head and hands are way too big for the body.
Sure, Rob, I´ll try and order those three issues with the Jippes version for you. I´ll ask my local shop tomorrow.

Both versions were published in volume # 32 (September 2008) of La Grande Dinastia dei Paperi, the Italian "Carl Barks Library" issued during the entire past year.
Both versions were also printed in the Scandinavian Carl Barks Collections. I assume Jippes' version will be printed in one of the last issues of "De Beste Verhalen van Donald Duck" (Dutch Barks album series). But I can't wait for that. I'll also want to get it in the Dutch Weekly.
