Hmmm, am I missing something here or is this artwork not a direct "lift" from Uderzo's Asterix?

Well,as far as I know,the Publisher asked the Artist to have some similarity with Asterix...having said that,I think it's really funny,and drawings are great!
The story has never been published outside Germany....

European market is filled (not totally, of course) with comics in this style, especially in France, Belgium and Holland.
example, Knut the Viking:

I would call it a direct copyright violation. Does not Uderzo own some sort of copyright? : http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_NMCX52iHvok/SM4zLsp_KNI/AAAAAAAAAEc/Ar87rOa3a2U/s1600-h/Copertina+Ulisse1+Inglese.jpg

I would say the World is full of Comics and more or less are all adaptations of someone else style, actually no one sell anything anymore,example :Egmont and Walt Disney Italia have cut in half their productions.....
Regarding Copyright,inspiration it's not copyright violation as far as I know,the way I see this comic is, that Ulysses resemble somehow Asterix,height,beard etc.
If we look at the CGI Animation Films,they are all of the same kind,is that a violation?

What do you mean "CGI films are all the same kind"? Comics are all the same kind too, they're printed on paper. But in my view, "Ulysses" leaves no doubt that Massimo Fecchi blatantly copied not only the style but the characters themselves. In the U.S., that's a violation. But maybe in Europe, that's OK.

Entitle to your opinion!
If I may,you are accusing one of the best cartoonist around of Copyright violation,do you know about Copyright?I do,in a court you will loose;
Anyway,I do not have to defend him,contact him and see what he says,it will be interesting..

Well yes, my opinion is that of my own entitlement (whose else would it be?). And frankly, I couldn't care less about this artist, or his work. I'm not interested in Asterix or any bastardized copy thereof. I'm simply stating the obvious since it was presented for discussion in this forum?and one cannot very well ignore the proverbial elephant in the room. However, as I noted earlier, I'm sure things are viewed differently in Europe, and so I wouldn't presume to tell you or anyone else there all about your copyright laws or lack thereof.

Personally I loves me some Fecchi for the very reason that he looks like Uderzo if he were doing Disney comics. :)
Morequack, my initial view right off the bat is that the whole thing seems to be more a direct parody of Asterix than anything else. Apollo seems to suggest that is the case also, due to him saying that his publisher wanted him to give it a more "Asterix-y" slant.
It's no different from the many Jonny Quest parodies or homages that are out there from American cartoons - specifically Venture Brothers which flat out uses some of the JQ characters in a few episodes for comedy sake. Or - to put a comics slant on it - Spider Ham VS Spider Man if you remember that (which was even done by Marvel themselves). I'm thinking that this is probably along the same lines as a European parody. After all, Asterix is stupid popular in many parts of Europe so its not like a project like this hasn't been attempted before by someone else.
The elephant in the room in this discussion is probably pink with polka dots and doing cartwheels on the ceiling. :)
Anyways - I've see outright BLATANT plagiarism before but I don't quite think that's what it is. Of course, without more info from Fecchi on it who really knows. Why don't you ask him? I've emailed him before and he's an incredibly friendly guy who loves giving responses to anyone who sends him queries.

You cannot copyright style. Characters and their direct likeness, yes, but not overall style of drawings.

Absolutely right WB/Timoro;
I know the full story behind this cartoon,I've had information directly from Massimo Fecchi,he told me that he never looked at Asterix comics while he was drawing his saga,on the contrary,his main ispiration was an Italian famous cartoonist:Jacovitti ,I remember when I was at school, all the pupils had a Jacovitti's diary,lovely!
He's also put a fun Animated video of the prologue on YouTube Video ,check it out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oba-C_ia7vc
