Inside are Barks' feature-length "Too Many Pets"; a 1932 Gottfredson two-pager never before reprinted in North America; a new Byron Erickson Mickey/Donald adventure featuring the Phantom Blot; a new Noel Van Horn Goofy story; a new Heymans Scrooge short; and a new Barks/Jippes Woodchuck recreation.
$9.50 gets you 80 pages, 76 of which contain comics. Square-bound and on the thicker paper we use for our heavier TPBs. I'm not sure what's not to like!

David, has Gemstone investigated the possibility of using newsprint? DC has been using newsprint for some of their trades recently, and they look quite nice.

Gemstone's quality is unmatched, but I'd happily continue buying on lower-grade paper if it meant the books could be 2-3 dollars cheaper. If it was a difference of pennies or a buck, I'd rather no changes be made. Since I've decided I'm going to support Gemstone by buying their books to share with my kids no matter what (within reason!) my opinion probably counts for little though. :)

I want the books to last a long time (all my grandparents lived well into their 90s (one over 100), and my parents are in their mid 80s and still very healthy)). Therefore, I'd rather pay more for the better paper (assuming it is longer-lasting).

I'm with Morequack on this one. I'll pass. Great paper or not, recent gas prices and food cost hikes have led me cutting back to just getting Uncle Scrooge thru my subscription. (I have a full run to date,) I might be possibly ebaying off my other runs of DD Adventures for extra dough? With a 7 year old son and the overinflation of this horrid economy, it's getting rougher and rougher to purchase extra items for myself once bills are tended to. Like many of the other one-offs, I can do without. I'm more of a focus guy anyhow. Cheers.

I have books from the 70s on newsprint that are still in fine shape and quite readable, not fragile at all. My local comic shop owner has books older than that in similar condition. I also have some that literally fall to pieces in your hand if you open them! It really depends on how you store them (the environment being dry and relatively low in humidity is key, far more than bags and boards). Of course nothing lasts forever. I have no idea whether the "better" paper is longer lasting or not though. I'd be more worried about the glue binding the Gemstone books cracking, something you don't have to worry about with older standard size stapled comics.

A lot of my newsprint comics from the 1940s and 1950s have pages yellowing, paper drying out (thinning) and edges crackling and pieces breaking off. This is despite keeping them in plastic covers (alternating the plastic), and keeping them in dark, cool places. Limiting the oxygen to them, not limiting it, etc. has only a minor effect. In the long run, the pages will oxidise and dry and fall apart. I just don't want that to happen sooner than it needs to (e.g. in my lifetime).

I just noticed the number in the topic. Does anyone know why #373 is still the latest number on inducks? It would appear that nobody has been indexing for quite some time!
