Walt Disney's Comics & Stories #687
Writers & Artists: Freddy Milton, Byron Erickson & Paco Rodriguez, Paul Murry, Jack Hannah, Sarah Kinney, and Carl Barks

Product Description
Donald Duck and his nephews discover a case of 'Claus and Effect' upon making a last minute delivery to the north pole! Then Mickey Mouse mixes it up with cat burglar Katarina and the Hong Kong Tong Family Mafia in Byron Erickson's pulse-pounding 'Claws of the Cat!' Paul Murry's Gyro Gearloose and Grandma Duck story: 'Present Plot', and 'Santa Claus' Visit' - a never-before-reprinted 1943 Donald tale by Duck master Jack Hannah - fill up the issue in classic mistletoe, while Carl Barks's 'Ten Dollar Dither' rounds out the issue!

For Olivier and any other admin reading this - I'd prefer to keep the talkbacks all in one thread and simply change the thread title to reflect this once a new issue comes out. Unfortunately after someone posts in the thread I can't seem to change the thread subject anymore. So this time at least, I had to make a new thread entirely. I was kind of afraid that if I did this constantly, it might clutter up the board so is there any way that I can do that or would I just have to post separate threads for every issue?

In the meantime: comments and opinions on the latest release?

It seems you can not rename a thread once there are replies indeed. You might as well post a new thread for each issue as you suggested - or maybe you can make a general thread "Discuss the latest WDC issue"? (the thread will go up in the list whenever you discuss a new issue).

That's probably what I'll wind up having to do for future issues (starting next month). Ah well. Cest la vie.

Note this issue contains the very rare "Santa Claus's Visit" story by Jack Hannah.

I'm guessing that that was the special Christmas Walt Disney's Comics and Stories issue from 1943, that had an 8 -page Jack Hannah Donald Duck story, and an 8 page Mickey Mouse story in it. I think it also had a "Thumper" story in it. I have the original of that comic
Ramapith
Yep! That's the one.

Here's the first page of the MM story, (drawn by Ken Hultgren?):

Thanks for the scans, Rob! FYI, you're right about the Mickey story, whereas the Thumper story is really drawn by Carl Buettner.
Olivier
Thanks, Robb!
The cover shows how much the nephews need a little tuft of feathers on the head; they look freakish here, especially with only their bowling ball heads visible.

It would have been nice to read this issue at Christmas time, but oh well. I understand that there can be problems to fix, just glad that they were.
"Claus and Effect" was a great story. If only all mail carriers were that determined to get the mail through. I really enjoyed the ending as well.
"Claws of the Cat" was a nice adventure story. Good plot, and I like to see new characters introduced every once and awhile.
"The Present Plot" while not a bad story was to me the low point of the book.
It was great to see something so rare as "Santa Claus's Visit". Donald should have known better than to think he could fool his nephews so easily.
The Goofy story, "Putting it all Together" was a good read also. It was nice to see Goofy showing up Mickey for once. And he did it without stumbling onto the solution as usual.
Carl Barks' "Ten-Dollar Dither" was a good choice for the Christmas issue and a good way to wrap up the book.

I didn't even know about that Christmas story by Freddy Milton. I had thought that I had all his original Danish printings of his Gutenberghus work, but didn't have that one. It must come from 1976 or so (before he started working for Oberon (Dutch Disney comics). I was very pleasantly surprised.
I saw the book in a shop. My subscription book has still, as yet, not been mailed to me. I'll just be happy IF it comes. I hope they can keep to the "catch up" schedule.

Well, my personal vote would be to continue doing specific (separate) threads as you have done so far. That way it's a lot easier to zero in on a particular issue you might be interested in reading and/or commenting about. (I might add the cover date to the thread title, as well, though, for those of us who have trouble keeping up with issue numbers. This one here it wouldn't be necessary for as your "late for Christmas!" tag pretty much served the same purpose.)

Whatever you decide, though. It's your baby, so to speak. (I wouldn't worry too much about "cluttering up" the list, however. It's not like we pull Newsarama like numbers here or anything.) :)
