Comic Book Resources has a series on 'Comic Book Urban Legends Revealed', and yesterday's article was about Carl Barks' influence on George Lucas and Stephen Spielberg for the rolling boulder scene in Raiders of the Lost Ark:

"The Seven Cities of Cibola" is one of the few long Barks stories I have never actually read. Mostly due to the fact that I missed the CBL album and have never been able to find a copy of the Gladstone reprint. Shame really as I've only seen it in bits and pieces and this just makes me want it more. =\"

There's also bits of "Prize of Pizarro" and "Land Beneath the Ground" in the Indiana Jones movies, if I'm not mistaken.

I know it is Roger. That's one of the reasons why I'm eagerly awaiting it among other things. For a story as famous as it is, "Cibola" doesn't get printed that often which is probably a good thing as I'd rather good long stories like that not suffer massive overexposure ala a certain one containing the word "Klondike". =)

WB - You should be able to purchase one of those reprints fairly easily, for very little money. I may even have a duplicate of the Gladstone reprint, I could sell or trade with you (But only if you first tell me whether or not you are Dr. Witchie Britchie!).

I never said it was a bad story Roger. I said it's been hinted at or referenced in other stories or reprinted in general about a bajillion and one times: two times in the Gold Key era, four times between books and albums during the Gladstone era, three times during the Gladstone Two era between books and and albums, and ALREADY twice during the Gemstone era. It's the single most re-re-re-re-re-printed Barks story ever - give it a freaking rest for a while. :P
"Back to the Klondike" is a classic, yes, it is most CERTAINLY not a bad story, but does it need to be splattered out for all the world to see 5 million times during a regular disney comic run cycle when there's so much other stuff that hasn't or deserves to see print too? No. I'm not being ugly or facetious Roger, all I was saying is that there's plenty of other Barks stories, both early and late (some that haven't even been touched in the main books) that deserve print besides "Back to the Klondike".
Pretty soon we'll be able to recite the story word for word. I'm sure the hardcore Barks camps already can. :P
