Recently I was in Greece. And when in Greece do as the Romans. What I mean is that as always when I visit Greece??and being Greek myself I do so once a year or two??I was again on the hunt for past issues of the fine Greek Duck publication KOMIX.
There were none to be found!
Only the current issue was available.
Well lemme tell you, it was not always so. For many years, and as recently as 2005 I was able to walk into any newspaper/magazine stand or kiosk and there were almost always several and often dozens of past issues to be had.
Last week I walked into several stores in the city of Chania with my want list of issues only to come up completely empty. Surprised and disappointed I found not a single past issue was available! Not sure why this is. The only thing that I can think of is that this series has become very collectible and back issues are just not returned to newsstands for credit or trade. Also, very few seem to be available online on Ebay.
Can any Greek fan, or anybody out there in the know, shine a light on this phenomenon?

Maybe they return the unsold copies to the distributor/publisher.

When i was in Athens in 1999 I was able to find many back issues on the markets in the Monastiraki area - I have quite a stack of komix-issues, thanks to those market stands, and Kriton, Dennis and Apostolis. Either via the publisher or our greek friends it should be posssible to get hands on issues.
Maybe Xania is just to much of a tourist city now for it to be possible to find a kiosk or magazine shop with back issues - yet alone a market with such magazines.

Yes indeed, I'm familiar with that area of Athens. I haven't been there in a while. Last time I checked was about 2005 and the KOMIX back issues were getting rather scarce??and often quite costly.
