This is an AWESOME news!!!
Exactly what I wanted!

Now I can finally buy Disney comics legally, without having to own an Apple-branded device, and without having to store physical books!
And it allows easy access to these books! (I mean, wherever we live)

The price seems OK ($1 for 24 pages approximately, $2 when more pages) but of course I'd still have liked it to be cheaper, considering there are no prints & shipping costs. Oh well, I'll definitely buy several of them :)

What I'm rather surprised about this though, is that Disney hasn't made a single announcement anywhere O_o Not even on the official Twitter account, or the official site!!! They still talk about Iphone/Ipad...
I hope it will be successful enough so that the library grows up.
And, who knows...maybe if they release new Disney Afternoon comics, they'll end up there too! (I wish they would make the Boom DA comics there already!)

And it seems the catalog is growing up!!!

Now they've added some graphical novels :

And more of the series, like for example :

The whole catalog's here :

It's getting reaaaaally nice :) For those of you who have an Ipad/Iphone, are these the exact same comics available there?
For now these are comics that can be found in prints, but they might also put some more rare stuff there one day :)

I know many of you don't like digital much, but I'm really excited myself :) The Comixology reader is very good. Just try it out, that short one is free :

Especially try the "guided view"! I find this to be even better than reading on a paper, because it's more dynamic and we can't spoil ourselves by seeing the next bubbles in advance :)

(sorry for double post)

Quote from user: GeoXAlso, Grandma's hair, jarringly, is bright yellow.
That's standard in all the recent issues of Topolino that I've set eyes on, actually. (Kind of like how, also in Italy, the exterior of the money bin is vivaciously multi-colored, using mostly primary colors...) :)

That sounds pretty nice, but I can't see any Disney comic on comixology.com or the iPad App. All nur links redirect to the comixology home page. There seems to be some kind of IP-blocking for Germany?!
Steet
Well that's weird. All the links seem to work fine to me, and I was even able to buy several comics. And I live in France!
Maybe try using a proxy, if you know how to do it...
Charlie Brown
I just tried the links with a proxy outside Germany and see all the Disney comics.

I'm not really impressed with ComiXology's selection of Disney comics. I looked at the preview pages for a few of the Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck titles, and I bought and read the first chapter of "All Of Scrooge McDuck's Millions", and I just can't get excited over these stories. Especially after reading through many of BOOM/Kaboom's Disney paperbacks, I can't say that I'm eager to read more Italian Disney stories. The artwork is perhaps the most attractive part of these stories, but to me, they don't feel like the characters I've grown up with. The dialogue is missing a lot of the nuances of the older stories or is just dull to read. More often than not, the characterization is all wrong or the writers insist on shoehorning the characters into an idea that really don't suit them (Super Duck, Ultra Heroes, and Wizards of Mickey being the most well-known examples). "Millions" is an idea that was done much better by Don Rosa in his "Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck" mini-series and it's "Lost Chapters". Other than a few stories by Romano Scarpa, Marco Rota and Casty, I just can't warm up to the Italian Disney comics style.

In fairness, you really shouldn't blame the stories themselves for the shitty English translations. If they were being published by someone who actually cared about them, they would, whatever their other flaws, read a lot better.

I will agree, some tweaking to the scripts would help some. I will also admit to being a bit too picky and viewing these too much through a lens of nostalgia. Maybe I've become too attached to Barks and the Gladstone era of these books to be truly objective.
Steet
Well it doesn't sound really fair to compare them to Don Rosa's. Of course they're not as good, but then again, there are very few Disney comics as good as his.
They are all new comics to me, and I enjoy them. But yeah, if they could include non-italian comics, it'd be even much better!
Maybe they will. They're still expanding the catalog each week.
I didn't notice any particular flaw in the translation, but maybe that's because english isn't my first language.

comiXology recently added 'The Incredibles: Family Matters', which was one of the Pixar originals from Boom Studios. So hopefully we will see all the Disney comics produced by Boom Studios added to comiXology in the future too.
I'm surprised some people are against digital comics, the image quality can be so much better compared to paper, it doesn't get worn out over time, and it is much easier to have multiple comics stored on a mobile device.

They've said they would add non-italian comics soon, and considering they're now adding some Boom! stuff...maybe there's hope for the Disney Afternoon :)

There's just something to holding a paper copy of a comic in your hands... and not all of us have a mobile device really capable of viewing comics on. (My smartphone is capable, but the screen is too small to be practical.)

I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one who likes to hold a paper copy in their hands. I still buy books even when I can get the same information online. I like to hold a book in my hands and own it. I work a lot on the computer during the day and it's nice to be away from it in my leisure time. I like going to comic book stores, the smell of old comics, and sometimes getting them signed. I suppose you could ask an artist to sign your computer but somehow I don't think that would be the same thing...

Comic books are just one of those mediums that I need to have in my hand. I can get away with a fiction ebook, but things like comics or special interest books really need the printed, tangible format.
A lot of comics, especially older stuff, seem to lose something in the electronic format.
