Topic: Only a Poor Old Man "New Printing"??

While I was looking over Fantagraphics' page today, I noticed something interesting that I hadn't noticed before.

For whatever reason, it appears that there was a 2nd edition, or New Printing of Fantagraphics' Carl Barks Library Volume 12: Only A Poor Old Man. It was apparently released in March of this year (2014). Does anyone know if it is any different from the original one that was released in 2012? I looked through their website, but I couldn't find any particular information one way or another about this new printing. Has anyone bought this graphic novel since March 2014 and we could maybe do a comparison?

Looking over Amazon's page, in comparison to Fantagraphics' page, it appears there's an additional 8 pages of content, as Amazon only lists 240 pages (which I believe is how many pages mine has as well), but Fantagraphics' site lists 248 pages!

Any thoughts that you may have would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks for your time! Talk to you later!

There are multiple printings of a number of the volumes. They are reprinting them when they run out of stock so that all of them remain in print and available for the foreseeable future.
I have a second printing of Shacktown from the Christmas slipcase set. The Bear Mountain slipcase volume is also a different printing than if you purchased the volume separately (I believe the slipcase volume has a sewn binding while the individual volume ended up glued for some reason).
I am unaware of any other differences between any of the printings, but I don't have the 2nd printing of Only a Poor Old Man, so hopefully someone else can chime in on that volume in particular.

If I had to make a guess, I'd say fixing coloring mistakes could be one such difference.

Thanks, asdqqq! That explains it.

My Fantagraphics copy of Only a Poor Old Man is copyright 2012 (no month) and is 240 pages. Tomorrow, Saturday, is when the comic book stores are offering free mini comics for Halloween. While I'm in there I'll look at their most recent edition of Only a Poor Old Man and see how many pages it is.

The different printings have probable the same page count: 240 numbered pages and totally 248 pages including cover.

I visited my local comic book store today and looked at a copy they had for sale their shelves. It was also copyrighted 2012 with 240 pages. I'll tell you one thing, though. It's taking me real will power waiting for the boxed set of the Don Rosa Library and not buying the first volume in the meantime!

The question I have is: Will Fantagraphics evenyually issue boxes for EVERY pair of Barks series Donald Duck and Uncle scrooge books. If so, I would just wait for the box sets to come out, as they appear to continue to keep the books available, and they don;t sell the boxes separately. It's a pain to keep buying duplicate books if I want to get the boxes later. The boxes protect the books and make them sit better on the shelves, and they look better than loose books. They are a great feature of the Gottfredson books, so, why not put the entire Barks series in boxes. I'm sure almost ALL the Barks buyers would be willing to pay the little extra to have them.

I'm also curious to see how that plays out. I am going to keep buying these volume by volume because (1) I don't want to wait, and (2) I don't want to take the chance of something halting the project later on and not being able to get one of the volumes easily.
I do like the boxes on the Gottfredson library, but I don't know what Fantagraphics has in mind. They could've already offered box sets for vol. 5-6, 7-8, and 11-12 of the Barks library, so maybe they're not going that direction and only using the boxes for selected "gift" pairings.

That 2nd alternative is a lousy decision.

Not knowing what is coming up with the boxes is frustrating for me , too. I don't like at all buying a book once and then having to buy it again because it later is offered as part of a boxed set which I want.
