"Seaweed could aid weight battle"

If the researchers are trying to patent seaweed as a weight reducer there might be an surprising obstacle from the Disney related world :

So Bob Gregory (who scripted many good stories drawn by...) Tony Strobl/Joe Liggera described this weight reducing phenomena caused by seaweed as long as 54 years ago in the story Secret Of The Sargasso Sea.

However the mechanism of action on a molecular basis was not detected then, but in principle the weight reducing discovery mentioned in the newspaper article could be argued to not be that new.

Donald's nephews and their partner Scrooge McDuck have already made a fortune on Sargasso Tea from seaweed as a weight reducer :-) .

There are other examples of scientific or technical breaktroughs first described in Disney comics, e. g. by Barks.
