The French Uncle Scrooge comics (Picsou, Super Picsou Geant) are sold in Québec. Does anyone know a way for someone in the USA to buy individual current issues from a source in Canada? I'm hoping I could do this for less money than it costs to order an issue and have it shipped from France. Is there an online source, or a store I could call with the order?
I know that Disney comic TPBs and hardcovers are sold on amazon.ca, but I'm looking for a source for regular comics.

L'?change

Carsleys Comics

Not sure if it's of any help, but I know of a newsstand here in Vancouver which stocks Piscou regularly (buy it from time to time myself as well).
I'll enquire about it next time I'm there regardless. Maybe get some info about how the Canadian distribution is set up for this stuff.

They are mainly bookstores ; Picsou Mag is only sold in newstands.
Argonaut might be right, let's see if they sell by mail order.

Ha! Ha! And what shops in North America sell ONLY comic books? They couldn't survive. In fact, from what I remember of so-called "Comic Book Shops" in Europe, almost all of them that I have visited, in The Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Belgium Germany, Britain, and France, have had more book stock than comic books. The 3 Montréal shops I listed have large stocks of comic books for sale. I don't know if they carry current issues of Picsou. But. I imagine that they could order it for someone, and that they more likely have facility for shipping orders to customers, than do newsstands. It couldn't hurt to contact them, in addition to contacting newsstands.

But no magazines... Picsou Mag is not a comic book (not a book either), it's a monthly magazine for children (with comics of course but many articles too about movies and videogames, jokes etc... And a gadget) and it's sold with the newspapers. The comics shops (in Europe or in Québec) never sell Picsou Mag, it's not the same circuit. Same for the bookstores, except when they have a press corner.
For the trade paperbacks it's a different story and another publisher (Glénat instead of Disney Hachette Presse) ; their books are indeed sold in every comics store, bookstore, hypermarket etc.

Just curious, Arnaud--would Super Picsou Géant be sold in comic book stores? I understand what you're saying about Picsou Mag, that though it has comics in it, it is sold with magazines, not comic books. But SPG is all comics, so is that sold in comic book stores in Canada and Europe? And is Journal de Mickey sold with magazines at newsstands, while Mickey Parade is sold in comic book stores?
Fascinating. Since I am of course only interested in the kids' magazines because of the comics in them, it never occurred to me that these publications would fall into entirely different categories for sale/distribution. I have bought many French Disney comics (Picsou, SPG, Journal de Mickey, Mickey Parade), but I have bought them used via ebay.fr or ebay.ca, so the distinction wasn't an issue.

No, it's the same for Picsou Magazine, Super Picsou Géant (and there is a few articles in it, I do write them ;) ), les Trésors de Picsou, Mickey Parade, le Journal de Mickey... All Disney Hachette Presse publications are for press only. That's the kind of their license ; Glénat's license is for books... Some of our magazines (les Trésors for example) look like books, but they're not. All of them have a few texts or at least some fun & game, they can't be all comics because of the law about press publications for youth. (So I've got some work because of the law, God bless her ! :) )
An exception however ; unsold back issues of le Journal de Mickey and Picsou Magazine are gathered in collections AND sold in bookstores (not in comics stores, forget it - it's not graceful enough)

Thanks for the clarification, Arnaud. So now I understand why SPG has to have at least a few pages of non-comics material. (Reminds me of the reason why we got Gyro Gearloose stories in Uncle Scrooge comics in this country!) This means that, while I would find Disney comics in comic book stories in Scandinavian countries, in France I would only find the Hachette stuff at newsstands and bookstores with a magazine section.
So...I want a newsstand in French Canada. Hmmm. I have a friend in Toronto who will ask around for me, but unfortunately no friends in Francophone Canada!

Ha! Picsou found, by my Toronto friend, at Maison de la Presse near his office. Thanks for the guidance, Arnaud!
But they currently have #491, so my friend will have to check back for #496. I don't know whether all of Canada is typically this far behind publication schedule....but Maison de la Presse says they're four weeks behind.
