Does anyone know if there were any other printings in English of Carl Barks' Race to the South Seas just like the original (don't care about color changes, just the artwork) other than the first printing? Maybe even in a hardbound Disney book or something??? Thank you.

How about the Walt Disney book Donald Duck and his Nephews? It includes Race to the South Seas. Is this version the same as the original first published comic? Is Fantagraphics ever going to publish the completely original version?

No, Donald Duck and his Nephews does not. Think about it. Considering how loyal fantagraphics is being, do you think they would just decide not to use the all barks version?

Basically, there isn't any easy way to get it 100% Barks.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong

Thanks AzureBlue. Excellent logic. I hadn't looked at it that way. I just saw today where an Abbeville Press book listed Race to the South Seas in its contents. I thought maybe there is an original version of the story out there without buying the expensive first printing.

I once owned the original but it was so fragile and valuable I couldn't really kick back and enjoy it. I sold it when I needed some money but I'm still hoping Fantagraphics will be able to publish it. They came through with the Don Rosa Library so I have high hopes!

If Fantagraphics ever does a new edition of the Barks library book with Race to the South Seas they should offer it to us early buyers as an exchange or as a very cheap trade in. Especially given how they hyped the book as having the original in the introduction and advertising.

For anyone unfamiliar with this magazine, it looks like it is intended to be a quarterly publication by Disney Publishing Worldwide. The current issue focuses on the Mickey Mouse shorts, with four different 6-page Mickey stories, a 4-page Planes story, 18 pages of Phineas and Ferb comics, a 4-page Brave story, a Wreck It Ralph 2-pager, a couple of Monsters Inc 1-page comics, and a 4-page Fish Hooks story. There's also a bunch of puzzles, mazes, and posters. I've got two young kids and they enjoy it, but the stories are definitely a lot more shallow than what fans of Disney comics like. Its a $10 magazine, and is 96 pages with no ads.
