Joxer, you're right that it's nice for them to be able to do a full restoration. That doesn't make what they're doing acceptable under the law, though. Besides, they could have purchased the original prints and restored them without making a big (and false) show about them regaining the "rights."

Stefan, that's a good question. Most distributors who publish public domain materials probably don't have the resources to do much restoration, or don't possess the original prints, etc. A restoration could be exclusively owned by a company, yes. Let's make it simpler. I could own a photograph from say 1860. Obviously the image would be in the public domain. However, that doesn't mean I have to let anyone use it anymore than I'd have to let anyone use a chair in my living room. It's my physical property. It's not my intellectual property, though. So for all practical purposes I may control that photograph but I can't stop someone, for instance, from doing a sketch of it. Whereas if I had a photograph that I owned as intellectual property, and someone traced it, they'd probably be violating my copyright.

I own both games, but have only played the first. I became frustrated with the controls, and gave up on it. I do plan on going back and giving it another shot though. Haven't gotten around to trying the second game. I own too many games, but don't have enough time to play them. :-/
The Epic Mickey graphic novel is pretty cool though. I really enjoyed the art even if the story is just so-so.

Unfortunately, the graphic novel is only available in digital format. I purchased it via the Disney comics app. Apparently there were plans to release a print version, but I don't think we'll ever see that happen.
