I was rereading Barks' "How Green Was My Lettuce", and was struck by this exchange in the last panel:

If one wanted to be nitpicky, I suppose one could argue that this contradicts Rosa's version of events where Scrooge was estranged from the rest of the clan for most of Donald's childhood and early youth. If one really, really wanted to be nitpicky, that is.

It might be taken as being ironic on Donald's part. Donald might only hang out with Scrooge for few years to this poin but it might feel like they know each other forever...

It does put Donald's economic sacrifice more in perspective, if he's really raising his nephews AND paying for plenty of Scrooge's meals.

Than agian how old is Donald? 20-something? Four years working for Scrooge is like life time to him (especially when you discovering Atlantis each week or something)

I think the age depends on the source. Some comics I have the impression that he is in his early 20's for he still have that "just getting out of teen phase" feel to him. Others, he is acts older than that, and besides he has way too nice of a house to be just starting out. Though how he gets such a house on the wages he supposedly gets is a mystery in itself.
