OK, I knew to read Barks' Old Froggie Catapult when there was a hurricane, but now the question is what to read when a blizzard has you snowed in (I'm in New England). Here are my top three:
Barks' My Lucky Valentine, where mailman Donald has to deliver Gladstone's valentine to Daisy in a blizzard (doubly appropriate this week!)
William Van Horn's The Ghost of Kamikaze Ridge, where Donald decides to break tradition and picnic on K.R. in the snow--I really love the book Donald is reading, Your Stagnant Existence by Prof. Doldrum J. Tapioca (WVH loved snowy stories, which drove colorist Susan Daigle-Leach to distraction--perhaps my second favorite of these is his Creature Comforts, with the Fermi)
Janet Gilbert and Vicar's Young Man Winter (not published in the USA), where Duckburg is having a hard, snowy winter and Donald (via magic shovel) goes to the cave of Old Man Winter to try to stop it--what's really cool about this story is Vicar's drawings of Old Man Winter's home
What are your favorite snowy (but not Christmassy) stories?

There is a Barks 10 pager where Donald Duck brags about being a champion skiier, and ends up having to deliver some serum to a hospital while avoiding a villain or two who kept saying "Down with H'merica".
Luck of the North isn't a bilzzard story, but it has plenty of snow and ice ("There'll be no iceboxes where Gladstone's going...All ice and no boxes!" according to Donald).

Of course, the Screaming Cowboy (WDC 137)! It's my favorite Barks 10-pager, and I still didn't think of it...guess I was thinking blizzard/snowstorm, not avalanche. I'll have to read that and the Bornworthy WDC 125 this weekend.

Not a story but I really like the Carl Barks mini litho Blizzard Tonight. It's sort of a story in itself.

Ah, Patrick, I don't like the litho because I just don't like the look of the ducks in CB's paintings...but I *love* the cover illustration it's based on, from Donald Duck 44. I have a copy of that issue, and it's one of my favorite covers of all time, certainly one of my top two or three favorite Barks covers. I suppose partly because it (unusually) shows such a tender moment of Donald taking care of the boys (yet in an amusing way)...and because I really hate being cold. I'm not surprised that that litho was so popular.
And now that I re-read The Screaming Cowboy, I realize that it *does* have a blizzard...but doesn't show it. The blizzard happens overnight, and you just see the result of it in the snow plumes over the inn (which Donald brings down upon himself).
And for a story about being snowed in, I'll add to my list Kari Korhonen's The Coldest Warm Place, where the Ducks find themselves in penguins' under-the-Antarctic-ice warm cave home. Finding that story was a happy side effect of buying Micky Maus 2012-04 to get David Gerstein's A Bard's Tale!

Thank you for pointing out the comic book cover to Blizzard Tonight, Matilda. I had never seen that before. Now you have me pondering how the ducks look in the comics and in the paintings...
