I just got a copy of the German Micky Maus with David Gerstein's "The Bard's Tale," and I wanted to tell him and y'all how much I like it. Stars Horace Horsecollar (yay!) and Goofy, dealing with the ghost of a Shakespearian actor who is disrupting the theater. David does a great job of building on Horace's character; you couldn't replace him with any other character and have the story work. This story joins Don Markstein's first Bungaloos story and Sarah Kinney's "Whale Watch Blues" (not published in English) in giving me a real affection for Horace as a character. Plus, the ghost is cool, and Goofy gets to look good in contrast with Horace's overconfidence, and the interaction between H&G and the ghost is funny. (I'm just not entirely sure of the ghost's motivation; I don't think my Google-Translate-assisted German was up to those two panels.) Very funny denouement, too. I think this story will from now on be one of the dozen or so Disney ghost stories that I re-read every year around Halloween.
