Topic: About Don Rosa's "The Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck Companion" ...

I would like to read "The Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck" but the book is very expensive. It's almost $100 at Amazon, so I can't afford it right now.
Then I saw "The Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck Companion", which is not expensive at all.
So, my question is: Is it worth it to buy the "companion" without having read the original book? I mean, you're supposed to have the original before you have a "companion" to go along with, right? I mean, these are not the same stories from the original, right?
I'm new to Disney comics, so I apologize if I say anything too stupid. :P

The Companion is a bunch of single-issue stories, often with a "modern-day" framing sequence with Scrooge and his nephews. I think that you could read it without having read the 12-part Life and Times serial, but they have more of an impact if you have read the original series first. Honestly, I liked the original mini-series better than the "add-on" chapters, which don't fit neatly into the original story's continuity.

I think the Companion book is perfectly enjoyable all on its own.

Honestly, at this point if you just want to own the main chapters, it would probably be cheaper to buy the run of original Gladstone issues in which they were published.
I think if you hadn't read the main stories, the companion would seem somewhat disjointed.

To tell you the truth, I read the second book and then the Companion without reading part 1 of the main chapters. Found the chapter that were of his early life was still perfectly readable, but not as much insight as of the chapters I did read. Reading the main chapters give a sense of what he as doing and all that jazz that continues on to the Companion stories, but they perfectly hold up on their own. I is kind of like watching a TV series without watching the first few episodes: there might be some breaches of understanding, but you can still get into it perfectly fine.

I have The Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck Companion and the original Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck TPB. I also have the original issues in which the original chapters are published.

I saw the e-book on the internet. I'm able to read it if I want to, using a software such a ComicRack. I think it's rather depressing, though. It is not the same thing. I wish they would reissue the book so I could get an actual physical copy of it. Is it expensive everywhere? I wish Fantagraphics would release the book. :/
