Many of you maybe know this charachter, Lars Jensen explain him as a doubling of HDL caused by the fact they've been hit by a lightning, Gilles R. Maurice explain him as HDL's cousin son of Danilo Duck and Nino Russo explain him as HDL's fake cousin, invented by Donald and son of a fictional Donald's cousin "Paperella".
But who is this mysterious character? Is he an error of drawing or he is wanted on author's porpuse?
However, Walt Zuti, viz me, has written an Interesting Topic about him in Papersera Forum.
In the last published number of Topolino Libretto (TL), appears this charachter, with a dark blue hat, but probably is a ploy to sell more numbers of TL.
In his last post (
"an exclamation of relief, surprise, disbelief, weariness, etc."
(esclamazione di sollievo, sorpresa, incredulit? , stanchezza...)
, Walt Zuti (me), has made a li'l biography of this character from when he was officially born, explaining also Barks' use of him.
Whoever knows other stories in which he appears is welcome in this wonderful "Phooey-Hunt"

You think Phooey is Donald's son? I'm sorry but I don't agree with you Donald doesn't have a son. His nephews are the closest things he has to sons. I think Phooey is just some duckling that looks like Donald's nephews by coincidence or their forgotten brother. Phooey never appears in more than one panel when he appears. His official status is almost non existant.

I don't think Phooey is Donald's son, I think he's HDL's distant cousin...
However, Donald HAS a son or WILL HAVE some... ;)

I always thought that poor, forgotten Phooey might wind up turning to a life of crime someday... as Negaduck's sidekick. ;)

Phooey is Negaduck's sidekick? I don't see that happening. I know there is a story where Donald dreams that he and Daisy are married but that's just a dream sequence.

Actually, Phooey stand for phony or phoney. This means that from the very start it was recognized as something that did not belong to the story.

Yes, but it's recognized by Disney itself, so, altough he doesn't belong to the stories in which he ahe is a Disney official charachter and, in my opinion, he should be add to the INDUCKS and not to write HDL (4) when he appears. ;)

Actually as long as there are so many appearances of him (Barks drew him 4 times in 3 different stories) I would tend to agree with you, Sim. Although Barks did do other mistakes in his stories I am not aware of him having, say, drawn two Gyros or two Goose Gus, for example.
Apparently Barks was not the first one to draw him, or was he? There might be instances in which Phooey appeared as a name before Barks but maybe he drew him first. Later on others capitalized on him.
Problems, though, are always behind the corner. You (or whoever adds him up on INDUCKS) would have to choose who invented the character. Then there is the choice of the picture issue. How are you going to choose the picture for INDUCKS uploading to reference him?

Lars (Jensen), I recall you did a story about Phooey, namely this one: http://coa.inducks.org/s.php?c=D+97589. What is it about? I don't have the story.

Yes, HDL have been hit by a lightning and they can double themselves...
First author who drew Phooey was Al Taliaferro, panel above, who showed a nephew called "Phooie", but probably that was only a sign of disbelief of nephew's friend. ;)

"Phooie" in the Taliaferro gag was merely an expression of skepticism, NOT the dog-boy addressing one of donald's Nephews. In all 3 of those panels from "Beach Boy", theso-called 4th Nephew is merely another Junior Woodchuck, who happens to be a duckling. Notice that there are also several other ducklings in the troop in the view with the whole troop. In the diamond story, Barks just forgot to erase one of the three Nephews on the peak, after he realised three couldn't be there because one was running down the mountain. he told me that, himself. Of course you all know all this. You just want to have an extra character recognised, because that would be "interesting".
