Topic: Much Ado about Ludwig

Even though it has been proved that Ludwig Von Drake doesn't need to be married to Matilda to be Don's relative (they have mutual ancestors), authors like Don Rosa and Monique Peterson (Little Big Book of Disney) insist in this marriage.

I discovered an uncle of HDL who Donald seems, for any inexplicable reason, to hate; his name is Zak McWak. I firstly thought it could be Don's other sister's husband, but Don doesn't have other sisters! So I decided that Zak could be born from an early Scottish relation of Hortense McDuck with a McWak, making him Don's half-brother and HDL's uncle.

The alternative would be that Zak is the husband of Matilda, but there is Ludwig and he would be so the nephews' great-uncle, whilst he seems to be closer to them. He can't be a previous husband neither, because he is still a relative.

Help me in solving the matter!

Thanks,
Sim

Why would anyone even guess that Ludwig is married? There was never ANY reference to any wife or marriage in any Disney animated product or in any comic book or newspaper strip. Just because Don Rosa shows such a relationship on a Duck family Tree makes it so? What about the published Duck Family Trees that don't have Ludwig married? Are they any less "real" than Rosa's?

I know, I personally consider Rosa's work no more (even less sometimes) important than other authors' one. But is a common thought that Ludwig and Matilda are married and Monique Peterson add this relation to her tree.

I simply wanted a suggestion. Do you think Zak could be Matilda's husband or you prefer Webfoot McWaddle?

I think having Matilda married to Ludwig and either Zak or Webfoot at the same time is a great idea. Bigamy in The Duck family!!! A great scandal! And bigamy touched upon in a Disney product! Terrific! Disney needs a facelift to compete with other entertainment purveyors in this modern World of loose morals. But, I doubt, seriously, that such would get past the Disney in-house censors. Furthermore, supposing that Ludwig and Matilda had a divorce previous to her marriage to Webfoot or Zak, we'd still have the same problem. Disney censors wouldn't allow divorce to be covered in a comic book (aimed at such young readers). I'm sure they have already allowed divorce to exist in their universe in a few of their live-action sitcoms and films. :)

Ludwig is Donald Duck's uncle. This has been established many times, including by Walt Disney himself.

AFAIK: Monique Peterson simply got the information about Ludwig being married from online fan speculation... so I would disregard her information about that marriage. And IIRC, in at least one of the 1960s TV cartoons Ludwig was established to be a bachelor -- which, to me at least, makes his bachelorhood as "canon" as anything can be in the Duck universe.

I'd say Ludwig Von Drake is unmarried. And the uncle of Donald.

I've told others this many, many times: you're trying to make two different versions of the Duck universe fit together! Donald Duck doesn't have any other sisters in Don Rosa's version of the Duck universe! Zak McWak presumably doesn't exist in Don Rosa's Duck universe... so there is no point in struggling to explain how Zak fits into that universe. My advice: you could simply decide Donald has three sisters (rather than two) and that Zak is married to one of them. Or you could make him HDL's uncle in some other way. Alternatively, you could decide Zak McWak doesn't exist.

That's right! Who would marry such an egotistical Know-it-all? His eccentricities, alone, would be difficult to put up with! He'd be insufferable after an hour, let alone considering dwelling with him.

Ok, Ludwig is bachelor.

What about Zak being Don's half-brother? This would explain, in my opinion, the "hate" he feels against him. I think he is about ten/twenty years older than Donald and Don envies his fame and money and ha is his brother!
