Due to the current exchange rate between the Euro and USD, ordering Ebay stuff from Europe is a lot better right now from America, so I've been turning my attention a little more to ebay.fr, since I can read French somewhat passably. What are the "must-have" comics that were written in Italian and translated to French or the like that have never been/ are hard to get published in English that I should buy?

Certainly, if you love Barks, you've to take this story.
Do you prefer mice or ducks? And - "classic" stories or modern ones?

It would be cool if that story was released here in America.

I'll check that one out! There don't seem to be any listings on ebay.fr yet, since it apparently wasn't published in France until this February, so I guess I'll have to wait a while unless you know of any other place to order it in America.
I like both but ducks have always been my preference. I read more classic but nothing against modern.

Well, there are many great Brazilian stories that were not translate in English like the Jose Carioca ones. The Brazilian JOC series seems to be more interesting compared to non-Brazilian JOC stories in Netherlands. The Dutch JOC stories are okay but they're not as great as the Brazilian ones. In some of the Dutch Carioca stories featured JOC's grandma who is named as Oma Carioca and later she appeared in the Brazilian story "Crocante 3D" by Fernando Ventura. This story shows that she exists in both JOC universes but it's unknown if she will appear in more Brazilian stories because she is not a character created by Brazilians. If some of her stories will be translated to English then her English name will be "Grandma Carioca".

I bought a slew of comics from ebay.fr and ebay.de when there were no new Disney comics in the USA. I personally chose stories by (a) going down the list of stories on INDUCKS listed by INDUCKS rating (it's called "top 100" but it really includes all stories rated) and using a personal filter (ducks, not mice, and no stories based on great literature, many of which have very high ratings but very few of which I have enjoyed); and (b) looking for stories by creators I knew I liked (go to the creator's INDUCKS page and click on "top stories").
Here is a selection of some of my favorite stories which have not appeared in English, but which I believe have all been published in French:
Nightmare Ship--Rota
The Incredible Shrinking Duck--Halas & Rota/Rota
Zio Paperone e il vascello fantasma (ghost ship)--Martina/Cavazzano
Bananas--Halas & Angus/Branca (Grandma Duck as adventurer)
Paperino e il mistero delle 2 civilta (the mystery of two civilizations)--Cimino/Lavoradori
Pass the Parchment--Laura & Mark Shaw/Flemming Andersen (Daisy and Donald and a cursed parchment)
Little Helper Lost--McGreals/Rota (Helper lost in the future)
Another One for the Album--Korhonen (Donald's birthday)
Party of None!--Michael Gilbert/Vicar (Gladstone's birthday)
The Treasure above the Clouds--Fallberg/Rota (Peruvian Junior Woodchucks ride condors!)
Plus four Magica stories:
Amelia e le due numero 1--Antonella Pandini/Martusciello
Double or Nothing--Solstrand/Rota
Zio Paperone e la meravigliosa vecchia ciabatta--Carlo Gentina/Silvia Ziche
Like a Bad Penny--Korhonen/Vicar
Happy Hunting!

Thanks for the awesome list Matilda! Beginning my search now! I'm particularly excited about some of the Rota titles, as I've always been a fan of his work.

BTW, "Little Helper Lost" is actually wordless, so no one's going to have any trouble reading it in a French or German or whatever edition! This also means that when IDW Disney comics eventually print it, they won't have to pay someone to write English dialogue. :)

I would love to see The Incredible Shrinking Duck. The story first appeared in 1993, four years after Disney released the movie Honey I Shrunk The Kids. Those "kids" were accidentally hit by ashrink ray, whereas Donald was affected by some kind of voodoo after breaking a glass ball at a museum, but I wonder if the story was partly inspired by the movie. The Shrinking Duck tale did appear in English. It was published in two parts in issues #39 and #40 of the weekly British magazine Mickey & Friends. The first pages of part 1 and part 2 from the publications in several different countries are shown on the Inducks site. Note how some publishers made dramatic changes in the coloring:
You'll have to enter http://coa.inducks.org/story.php?c= and then D+92513#scans
If I post the link in its entirety, a smiley face shows up. Arrgghhh!

Upon reading the title of this topic, this story immediately came to my mind: http://coa.inducks.org/story.php?c=I+TL+1510-AP , as well as the comic that The Rhyming Man mentioned at the beginning of the topic. Especially when you're a fan of Uncle Scrooge tales (like me), I would really recommend them.
I'm also a big fan of comics like Rota's "From Egg to Duck" and the aforementioned Italian comic series about Scrooge's parents and ancestry (http://coa.inducks.org/subseries.php?c=Duck+Dynasty), but I don't think you would enjoy them if you were very attached to Rosa's 'timeline'.

Just thought I'd update you guys, made an order with a few comics including, among other things, the marriage of Scrooge story that Scroogerello mentioned. Looking forward to it, and still trying to get my hands on Picsou Geant 186.

Which comics did you order with "The Marriage of Scrooge"? Was it the Danish, Swedish or Norwegian or Finnish? Can you read any of those languages? I hope everyone on this forum will campaign with IDW to print it in U.S. "Uncle Scrooge". It will be quite a few months till I can get a Dutch printing, and, at this point, it's not sure that The Americans will print it - unless we make them aware of that story. I will try to get David to make them aware of it.

Err, sorry for the misunderstanding, but I was referring to the De Vita story "Il matrimonio di Zio Paperone", or "Picsou se marie!" as it's titled in the French Mickey Parade I obtained. Sadly, my language knowledge is confined to English, French, Latin, and a bit of Russian, so I wouldn't be able to read any of the above. However, I'm definitely on board to get your "Marriage" in IDW. I have a copy of "The Greatest Hoax of All Time!" in WDC&S 691, and I enjoyed the story quite a bit, so I'd love to see more work from you and Jan in the US.

He is probably talking about Il matrimonio di Zio Paperone (=The Marriage of Uncle Scrooge) that Scroogerello linked to, not your Scrooge's Wedding. Also, it's not published in Norway yet.

Aha! So an Italian story also has Scrooge getting married! I'd really like to read that one!
