I've discovered that some people were using the avatar upload tool on this forum to post images that have nothing to do with this forum. So I removed the avatars feature.
If you'd like to get a copy of the avatar you posted on this forum, please email me (fwi -at- inducks.org).

Should we send the e-mail to cacou - at - inducks.org, or actually type "fwi" in the address?

I kinda always planned to make my avatar an actual drawing of Azure Blue, maybe Rosa's where he has the helmet from the cover he did, but ah well. Considering I put it off for two years I doubt it would have ever happened.

cacou, why don't you reinstate the avatars but institute a rule that they have to be Disney-related? I realize that we don't truly need to include an avatar beneath our screen name but they serve to identify the favorite characters of various posters. I liked my little Donald and I liked seeing the avatars of others. Was there no way to remove only the non-Disney avatars?

I agree, the little avatars were almost the "faces" by which I identified several fellow posters. I'd really like to have them back. I'm not questioning your decision as the moderator, of course, but just curious as to why there needs to be a rule that the avatars must be related to the forum, as long as they're not inappropriate or obscene?

Question: if there wasn't a rule in first place why people using non-disney stuff was a problem?
Wouldn't have been simpler to ADD such a rule?

Unless, of course, either there was already such a rule or people were abusing the system.

For all we know, people might be posting pictures of Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck on a Looney Tunes forum! Here is a suggestion: The Disney Comics Forum moderators can set up a page which shows 100 (or more) Disney-themed avatars and those of us who want to have an avatar can select one from that page. Problem solved.

But I want to use an avatar that I've drawn, myself (like the blueline drawing of Bre'r Buzzard, that I used). I think that should still be allowed. I don't like "canned" avatars.

Simple solution: Draw an avatar and ask the moderators to include it on the list which I suggested. And think how proud you will feel when several other people decide to use it too!

Most forums I've visited have users with avatars that have nothing to do with the topic the forum is about. I've come across Scrooge avatars on forums that don't deal with Disney comics in the slightest, and it's always been great to see that! Furthermore, this is a Disney comics forum, not a Disney forum. So while there's no question about the appropriateness of Mickey, Donald or Gladstone avatars, what about Disney Princesses, Frozen or Pixar characters, who are not traditionally associated with Disney comics?

I think having to choose from a list of pre-selected avatars (no matter how large) takes some of the fun and individuality away from even having an avatar. Again, this isn't a big deal, and the moderators have the right to decide what they want, but I guess I'm not getting why this was even an issue to begin with.

On another site that I waste a lot of time on.....er, I mean visit from time to time.....most of the posters do not use avatars but there are some really bizarre avatars among the few who do use them: One picture shows Zeus holding a lightning bolt, one shows someone's hand holding a gun against the side of a dog's head, one shows a man and woman chewing on opposite ends of what appears to be a long sausage, and one (used by one of the moderators) shows a child's sippy cup with eyeballs and sunglasses. I would not want to see any of those avatars on this site. I don't even like seeing them on that site! So why don't we have a new policy: We pick (or draw) an avatar and submit it to the moderators for approval. Anything Disney-related should be allowed.

I've never seen anything that distasteful on this site. But I'd be okay with being able to use an avatar after moderator approval (not sure why it has to always be Disney related, and as I pointed out above that's not the same as being Disney comics related, but whatever). Hopefully they'll be willing to consider it.

I'm afraid I don't understand all of this. Why does it matter what someone's Avatar is? Isn't it basically a way that people identify themselves? So long as its tasteful, I don't see the big deal.
I've been part of a hockey forum for 15 years. I've always used Pepe The Prawn as my avatar. It's unique to me and people know to look for it, as I know to look for their avatars.
In the grand scheme of things that we could do to improve the boards, was allowing only Disney Comic avatars really a priority?

Hi all
Sorry my message was not clear at all. I didn't meant what you thought I meant to say.
It is perfectly fine to use a non-Disney avatar.
The problem is different: bots (automatic computer programs) make use of a bug in the software used to run this forum. They register as a new user and then upload an avatar, without sending any message. You never saw any such avatar, but they are visible if you directly type the good URL. So this forum was used as a kind of file sharing website (note that you can hide any data in an image). The result is that I had more than 2,000,000 such images.
To solve this issue I woul need to correct the bug in the software. This is a wate of time as I plan to use another software in the future. I found it easier to remove the avatar feature, although I agree this is an expeditive solution.

I believe my avatar had been hosted on another site, and merely displayed here. Would disallowing avatar uploads but letting them be pulled from another site be possible and a solution?
