Quote from user: Robb_KHe is an inventive genius, but also a dimwitted bloke, when it comes to common "street sense". He is likely to be an "idiot savant", suffering from Asberger's Syndrome. He is a genius in one area, and concentrates almost exclusively in that area. When outside that area (in terms of running his life), he is at a complete loss. He has no relationship with the opposite sex, no real close friends, and knows little about how society operates, as he spends all his time inventing. He probably inherited the land and building of his workshop, as he doesn't know how to charge reasonable fees for his work, so he could earn a living to buy property, pay rent, buy anything more than the very basic foodstuffs, and buy clothing. He has only one outfit of clothes.
It's absolutely true, and yet he comes over much sharper in (for instance) the Massimo de Vita & Giulio Martina "Paperinik" stories than in anything Barks had him in. That's why I always assumed him to be an eagle, I grew up with Scarpa, the de Vitas, Bottaro and all the other... Italians!

Chicken ... eagle ... maybe we should settle for "chicken hawk"?

Quote from user: ramapithI won't try to figure out why he's got human feet!
Gyro has a "human" body, as opposed to the Ducks' bent-over posture which makes their waddle feet look more natural. Try to imagine Gyro without pants, this wouldn't really work either.

He's just a dog with a beak and white skin. Really, a few changes to his head and he's just a dog. He doesn't have a tail either, which makes him look even less bird-like.
Perhaps we can settle on "dogbird"?

In Baby Disney stories Gyro have bird feets. I think he changed himself by mistake with some weird invention! Maybe this explain Miss Quackfaster's different looks too. :)

I seem to remember reading somewhere about Carl Barks actually admitting, that he regretted making Gyro Gearloose so "abnormal". That is, most of the duck characters pretty much look like real ducks, except for that they wear some clothes, but Gyro doesn't. Launchpad McQuack was another such character, who was only partly duck-like. Which also might explain why both Gyro and Launchpad both usually wear pants, which other duck characters mostly don't. And to mention a female character, Gandra Dee is another example of this. Oh my God, I hate bringing that useless bimbo up, as she deserves nothing more than to fall into oblivion, but she also belongs to this cathegory. There is one episode of "Duck Tales", where we see her bare feet, and they're not duck's feet, but rather white-colored human feet.
And to Robb K: I have Asperger's Syndrome myself, and I too have thought about Gyro having it. Fenton Crackshell shows many signs of it as well. (I don't you think you can "suffer" from AS though, as it's not a disease, but it just means, that you're a bit different and might need some help with some things). I believe you're wrong about Gyro having no relationship with the opposite sex though. I've never seen a picture of her, but I definately remember reading about him some times having a girlfriend.

Launchpad looks a LOT more like a big Pelican-man than a Duck-man.

I hope you're right about Gyro being accepted by editors as having a "girlfriend", as I have a completed scenario ready to submit of a Gyro story in which he is "smitten" by a woman, and attempts to 'date" her. The problem is that it is an "oddball" size of 7 pages.

I remember at least one Egmont story with Gyro falling in love. If it serves the plot, why not?

Indeed he does, and Gyro is obviously supposed to be a chicken-man rather than a duck-man as well.

His wikipedia article mentions a girlfriend called Matilda, but it doesn't give us much information about her, and like I said, I've never read a story including her or even seen a picture of her.

Thank you! I've never seen her before! :)
Robb_K
So, as I understand it, Matilda was invented by Vic Lockman as story writer. And, she was a woman that Gyro was "dating". I've never read a story with her included. Was she a fellow inventor? Or was her "profession" not stated?

Furienna, did you receive my personal message?
Fernando Ventura
She's a restaurant owner! :)
Robb_K
Does Gyro ask her to cook his favourite food for him?
