I'm puzzled by the huge differences between old and new Finnish translation of Paperino e la farfalla di Colombo. They are quite different all the way.

On page 41 bottom row, Scrooge is showing the butterfly to the scientist, and the whole scientific explanation to this strange phenomenon is diffrent on these two translations:

1973:

Scientist: In times of Colombo natives were breeding these.
Scoorge: What?
Scientist: They were used to delivering information and messages, just like pidgeons in later times. Very clever.

2011:

- Rare sensation, mut not scientifically impossible! I pressume it is a case of genotaping.
- You mean what?
- The painting on the wing mutated as part of ancestor of the specimen in 1503, and these acquired characteristics were taped on DNA and were transmitted to next generations.

So my question is, which one is following the original one?

I pressume the 2011 translation is closer to the original Italian text. As far I know, in 1973 Finnish material for AATK came from Germany, and therefore 1973 translation is closer to the German one. Am I right?

But why so big difference?

A whole another question is where Scarpa got the idea for this marvellous but strange thing with the "Farfalla"?

I think genomes were more difficult to understand in 1973 than in 2011, anyway. It's very smart that Scarpa came up with this, it's great that it's not just any technobabble. Maybe the 1973 editor didn't understand it himself?

Ah, thanks, Gerd! My supposition was right.
Can anyone tell, if Italian version then talk about DNA etc? Late 1950's and early 1960's was the age of great discoveries in studying DNA, double-helix etc. Scarpa must have read the news.
