Here's an interesting picture-heavy article about a series of very nice painted illustrations of Donald's loopy cousin Fethry. It's from about a year ago from a very well-designed site "Imagineering Disney"... the comments below the article have since corrected the poster that the character depicted is actually Fethry, and not Donald, but the book's Editor must not have been aware of Fethry and the opening text apparently read "Hello, boys and girls. I'm your friend Donald Duck." These illustarions appeared in a 1973 book called Disney's Wonderful World of Knowledge. As I recall, there was a set of these books, released individually, and in a slipcase.
The artist credited is Giovan Battista Carpi. I'm not certain if that's accurate, but there are certainly some inconsistencies to the drawing styles and posing to lead me to believe the artist is referencing many different sources.
This beaver is drawn in a 1930s "Silly Symphony" or "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" style:

While the kittycat looks to be inspired by Al Hubbard's felines:

I know I've seen that Dumbo pose in the past on older Disneyland merchandise and storybooks:

But the Italian style is certainly present, as Fethry's alter-ego "The Red Bat" shows up here too:

It's funny that the poster wonders "is that the predecessor to Darkwing Duck?" I don't believe so, (but I've got something to share for a new topic on that subject!)

It's Carpi. The bat ilustration was the inspirational source for the creation of the Red Bat brazilian stories.
