In the same spirit of the Dark Horse YOE! Studios sculpture post, here are 4 pieces from the Walt Disney Classics Collection: "Classic Comics" is their series based on classic Disney comic book covers.

WDCC Classic Comics Series #1 (2008): Donald Duck & Yellow Beak "Donald Duck Finds Pirate Gold"

WDCC Classic Comics Series #2 (2009): Donald Duck, Huey, Dewey & Louie "The Sheriff of Bullet Valley"

http://i1197.photobucket.com/albums/aa436/DuckburgUSA/BulletValley.jpg

WDCC Classic Comics Series #3 (2010): Uncle Scrooge "Cash Register Concerto"

WDCC Classic Comics Series #4 (2011): Mickey Mouse & Donald Duck "Comic Book Companions"

They're all really beautiful in person, I was a little unsure of "Bullet Valley" until I saw it on display this April... the angle of the photo doesn't capture Donald's pose well, but it is really faithful to the cover and striking in person!

Here's a link to the fact sheets for this series, once you're there you can click on the thumbnails for info on the sculpture's inspiration, full specs, and additional photos:

Statue 3: Uncle Scrooge 5

But I'm sure anyone could've guessed that.

And this Scrooge figure, while not "officially" part of the comic series, was part of the "comic inspired" line that served as the precursor to the comic series - http://www.wdccduckman.com/images/scroogemcduck/2004scrooge.jpg

You could also point out that the Nephews don't look as scared as they did on the Barks cover.

I agree about the nephews not looking as scared. The whole piece just doesn't capture Carl's cover drawing well. Everything is so subdued and off compared to the cover that the whole piece just loses it for me. For instance, in the cover Donald's chest is way puffed out but not at all here. I think the people making these things don't realize how great Carl's drawings are to us and that we want a sculpture to look exactly like Carl drew it. We've looked at the ducks a million times and know how they should look. They change a little here, and a little there, and then they end up with something lukewarm like this...

I agree, it's not 100% accurate to the Barks cover, but the angle of that photo (which seems to be the only front view online) is taken a bit higher than looking at it straight on. Looks a lot more attractive in person.

In the early 1990s, when Carl was still alive there were at least 2 more sculptures of "Sheriff of Bullet Valley" and they didn't look quite right either (plus the curious exclusion of the nephews, which kinda made Sheriff Don look a bit menacing without sheltering/protecting anyone). There's one bronze version and another porcelain version that pre-dates the WDCC sculpt we've been discussing. I kinda wonder if that's a pose that just can't be translated into three-dimensions?

Absolutely, Mustang! This is a Barks-inspired piece, based on of the opening splash panel of "Only A Poor Old Man" (Four Color #386).

How do I include a picture in a post? I attempted to do so earlier and failed miserably.

The porcelain one really isn't well-served by the angle of that photo.
From almost any other angle, it's just about perfect. (From the angle shown in the painting, it looks just like it.)
It used to be part of Steve Geppi's collection??and as such, it stood proudly by the Gemstone front desk when one entered our building. It deserved its place of honor; I'd go as far as to say it's easily the best Barks sculpture of them all, with "Lavender and Old Lace" a close second. (Of course, I could never afford either one, so it's a moot point.)

Those. Are awesome.

It might be the first time Scrooge wears those classic three-stripped gloves. :D

It's real easy, Mustang:

1. You just need the web address of the image
(if it's your own personal image, just upload it to flickr, photobucket, yfrog or a similar type of image storage site)

2. Then you can just paste the web address in the space between these two bracketed codes:

3. After you hit "Submit" it'll show up in your post! Just make sure the size isn't too huge, it'll make the forum page load much slower.
