Hi guys... long time Disney comics reader, but first time posting to this forum.
Have been collecting off and on since 1990 (when I was 5 years old) and am starting to fill in some holes in the collection. Have just over 300 issues thus far, mostly collected as they were printed in the early 90s, but a good number purchased as back issues. Have also found some good deals on ebay, and there is a wondrous comics shop near my city that has pretty much any Disney book you can think of dating back to about 1980 (and a few older than that.)
My question is, what is the best way collect the comics? By favorite eras? By favorite titles? By favorite artists? Am very interested in hearing everyone's opinions.

There are a few ways to go about this:

Completest: If you're a completist, you might want all Disney comics with overlap -- You'll end up with stories in multiple reprints.

Or lots of different stories without overlap

If what you want is variety of stories with minimum overlap, and you're on a budget -- you may want to avoid some issues -- as some stories have been reprinted about ten times - 50s Barks Uncle Scrooge for example. I'd say get them in recent Gemstone or Gladstone issues. Whitman's, Gold Keys are great but a lot of what's been printed for artists like Barks has been reprinted since then with more features & articles. It sounds like what your store has is early Whitman's on up to the present.

I like to go by my favorite artists - I already have separate Want Lists for each Disney artist (stories I'm missing). Believe me, It's a lot easier than wanting to own every single Disney book since 1985 when I started reading them (with sporadic issues from the 40s to the 80s).

I'm curious what you decide to do

my two cents

I'd still like to hear some others' opinions, but I'm starting to think my best bet may be to go for a combination of favorite artists and characters. Like most other Duck fans, I'm big on Barks and Rosa, but I also like some of the foreign stuff.
And of course, even if they don't fall neatly into one of those categories, I'll take advantage of a bargain when I find it. I recently got five of the seven first series "Walt Disney's Comics in Color" albums for $20 total on ebay. One was even still sealed in plastic wrap.
