Turning off smilies to post a link

Thomps2525 just had the problem of not being able to post a link because the smilies feature took over due to some of the characters in the link...and that happened to me recently, too. I believe I just figured out what one needs to do to turn the smilies off. If you're starting a new topic, there's an option to click under the message box "never show smilies as icons for this post." If you're posting on an existing thread, don't use the "quick post", which doesn't give you this option. Instead, click on "post reply" at the lower right of the last post. That will give you the option to turn the smilies off.

Thank you, thank you! I figured there had to be some way to disable the "smileys" here. On another site that I post to, there are three options:
?¡ Disable HTML in this post
?¡ Disable BBCode in this post
?¡ Disable Smilies in this post
The "disable smilies" box is checked by default. I can type a colon followed by an "8", or an equal sign followed by a parenthesis, and it won't turn into a face. If I actually want to put a smiley in my post, I have to uncheck the box. On the Disney Comics Forum, if certain numbers and symbols are going to be converted to smiley faces, it would be nice if the faces were of Donald and Mickey!

Success! Thank you again, Matilda. I checked the box that says "never show smilies as icons" and the three sets of punctuation marks above did not turn into faces. Now I know that I will be able to post links in their entirety. We all will be able to.
