Topic: "brittle mastery of Donald" stories in English

The reprinting of "Master Photographer" in the BOOM Quack Up hc made me wonder how many "brittle mastery of Donald Duck" stories have seen print in English. I'll put my list here, and tell me if there are others you know about....I realize this depends somewhat on one's exact definition of the "brittle mastery" story type!

In order of publication in English:
Barks' Master Rainmaker, Mover, Glasser and Wrecker

Master Photographer/The Master's Touch (Bergstrom, Wejp-Olsen, Anderson/Verhagen, Jippes) WDC 520 (Jul 87)

Tip-Top Topiary (Halas, Avernell/Branca) WDC 533 (Oct 88)

It's Bats, Man! (Lustig/William Van Horn) DDA 6(Disney Co.) (Nov 90)

Master Landscapist (Rosa) DDA 22(Disney Co.) (Mar 92)

Spotless Don (William Van Horn) WDC 588 (Dec 93)

A Clean Case of Competence (Milton, Jippes) DD 306 (Jan 98)

Master of Mice (Transgaard/Vicar) DD 338 (Apr 06)

Sauce for the Duck (Ildahl, Milton, Jippes) WD Treasures: Disney Comics, 75 Years of Innovation (06)

It's interesting that out of the eight post-Barks stories, two have Donald as a cleaner, two as a pest-remover, and two as a shrub-trimmer!

I did a search on INDUCKS for "master" (that's how I found a couple of those listed here)--Master Animal Trainer (WDC 534) doesn't make my list, because Donald is not actually good at anything, he just thinks he is. Is Kay Wright's "Marvelous Mover" (DD 124) a "brittle mastery" story? I haven't seen that one.

Yes.

I know a few more that haven't appeared in the States, one of which I wrote:

Master Fragrancer (Katz/Llewelyn-Thomas/Vicar, code D 92293)

Master Graffiti Fighter (Rawson/Gattino, code D 2000-118)

You Vindaloo, You Lose a Few (Gerstein/Ferioli, code D 2006-338)

Thanks, David! So apparently I haven't missed many published in the US. I saw those you mention on INDUCKS, but assumed that if they weren't published in the US, there's no way I'd get to see them. (Fragrancer was published in the UK, but I noodled around on the Web and didn't find any easy way to buy the relevant comic.) I seriously love the title of your story, and I do wish there were a way to read it in English. Maybe I should try to find the French Journal de Mickey version of it; I notice your story provided the cover illustration!

You're welcome??but I can't claim to be a 100% reliable source. I might have forgotten a few mastery stories here or there, so the quest goes on...

David Gerstein: I bought your "You Vindaloo, You Lose a Few" in its French version, a used copy from eBay.fr, and much enjoyed it! Now the question is, with BOOM now publishing a more Gemstone-like mix of stories, is there any possibility that I'll get to see this story in BOOM, with its original English plays on words? (I love the title!) Perhaps I will get over to the BOOM forum and post a request for it (and for Rosa's "Fir-Tree Fracas," come next Christmas).
Also, your listing the cover art with Donald and the cats as one of your favorites got me to buy an issue of Gemstone's DD 315, and lo and behold, there was another "brittle mastery" story in it! I would say that Transgaard's "Snooper by the Book" qualfies as a brittle mastery story: Donald is truly good at finding missing persons, and he brings on disaster by overdoing it at the end.

Several Dutch stories are about this, naturally. I remember a master photographer, which is one of my favorites. It's in the first post.
