I have a rather obscure question. There was a fanzine/magazine put out years ago in the United States by John Nichols call The Barks Collector. These got nicer and nicer as they progressed. In one issue (there were around 40 some issues) they listed the results of a reader poll where the readers voted on the their favorite stories. They had it listed by the reader's favorite 10 page story, 2nd favorite 10 page story and so on. Then they listed the reader's favorite adventure stories the same way. My question is: Does anyone here know what issue number had the results of this poll? I would like to buy this issue but don't know what number it is so I can find it? Thank you very much. Could it be that that poll was not in The Barks Collector but in The Duckburg Times? At least Peter Kylling, on his Carl Barks page, mentions one issue of The Duckburg Times with a reader poll on Carl Barks' worst story (to me the more interesting question, by the way).

Whoa...there are people who think the all-time classic "Trick or Treat" is one of Barks' WORST? I am NOT DOWN with that.

That may have been the same poll and maybe it was also printed in The Duckburg Times as well. Now that you mention it I do remember it polling Carl Barks' worst stories, too. What you described sounds very familiar and I remember it had about that same number of participants. I wonder if that poll also tells the reader's favorite stories? If anyone remembers or has it in The Barks Collector please let me know what issue. Thank you.

You are probably looking for Ken Bausert??s "The First International Carl Barks Survey" published in The Barks Collector no. 21. It presents results of favorite covers, splash panels, gags (1/2 or 1 page), short stories (2-10 pages), long stories (11 pages and more) and worst stories. The results are based on votes from 49 respondents (24 from USA, 24 from Europe and 1 from Canada). And you are right, the same results are also published in ??The Duckburg Times" no. 15. But the accompanying text is different. As Ken Bausert states in the prologue of both essays: ??Since many fans of Carl Barks and his work subscribe to more than one fanzine and this report will be submitted to many periodicals, two separate ??essays" have been prepared with identical Statistical results".

Thank you so much, Tarogit! Amazing you could answer that! That's exactly what I wanted to know. I used to have all The Barks Collectors (and some of the Duckburg Times) but then later sold the whole set. I especially liked that article, though, and was thinking the other day I'd like to have it again. Reading it brings me into all the stories, and that fun time period, and I'm looking forward to getting it again. Thanks everyone for your help! Patrick
