Hello everyone,
I'm french, 26 and I've been a Disney/animation fan for as long as I can remember.
I've been reading topics on this forums for a few months, and thought it was time to introduce myself.
I used to be a HUGE reader of Disney comics when I was young. I mean, I collected lots and lots of "Mickey Parade", "Le Journal de Mickey", "Picsou Magazine" (french titles) I have learned only recently about some of the authors I liked the most then, without really knowing their names (aka Carl Barks and Don Rosa)
I have been recently reintroduced to Disney comic books, thanks to the new Darkwing Duck series (and I give my biggest thanks to Boom! for being the first company to FINALLY understand the huge potential of the Disney Afternoon series, which unlike the feature films, have always been unfairly overlooked, even by Disney themselves!)
I'm most known on the web for being the webmaster of the "Animation Source" fansites. (which are fansites dedicated to some animated films/series, Disney of course but not only : Balto, The Lion King, Spirit, The Princess & The Frog...
In particular I manage the site TaleSpin Source, which is dedicated to the (IMO) greatest series ever made, with the most lovable characters, varied stories and great art style.
Well, you get it - I'm hoping very, VERY hard for Boom! to produce new TaleSpin comics! They're doing a bang-up job with Darkwing Duck, and they announced Rescue Rangers so that seems a reasonable thought. *crosses fingers for this to happen*

Another thing I wanted to say : I have "sensed" that most of you think Boom is not doing such a good job with the "classic" Disney books. Well, I have only purchased a few ones and they seemed good to me - but, that's part of the problem. Now that I'm an adult, I don't see myself collecting a whole room of Disney comics. Also, it's difficult and expensive to get the Boom comics (they're not publishing the new Disney Afternoon comics outside of the USA)
I was really surprised by some of you saying that they didn't want digital comics. Well, I DO want digital Disney comics. I know that I would be buying a LOT of comics if only they were (legally) available online. Yes, I do know about the Disney DigiComics, but that's only available on IPhone and PSP (I have neither, and most kids don't) and the choice is apparently very limited. Why can't they make that available on a COMPUTER...If only they would improve that, and make some efforts to advertise it, it could be a great success. I also wasn't able to find the french version (if it exists) but english is not a problem for me. (credit card regions restrictions could be though...)
I have been particularly amazed by the industry comics sales declining so much over the years, especially in the USA - I really wasn't aware of that, and I now believe that the best way for comics to get attractive again is to make them available online. Kids nowadays spend a lot of time on the internet - well Disney should really make an effort to make them available. How can they buy Disney comics when they are not EASILY accessible, and they don't even KNOW about them? Just my opinion.
(Of course that shouldn't prevent books printings - I do believe they're complementary by the fact they're not aimed at the same customers)

Anyway, glad to have found this board!

You see, they probably think it's easier to copy the files on a computer, so that's why they avoid making them available.
As for the Disney Afternoon comics, it's up to Egmont and other European publishers. Does anybody know what they think about publishing the new American stories in here? Do they even have an arrangement with Boom?

That seems irrelevant to me : it's even easier to just scan the whole printed comic...
As long as they refuse to give access to everyone, it will never work. (unfortunately)
