I'm on vacation in the US and see one problem with Disney comics there. I'm here since 2 weeks and didn't see one issue of Uncle Scrooge, Comics and Stories or any other Disney comic book. You can get other comics (Spiderman, Simpsons, ..) in many grocery stores, newspaper stands and book shops, but no Disney comics. That's very different from Germany.
Or am I looking at the wrong places? I would like to take some books home with me.

My local comics shop in West Los Angeles (or the 3 closest shops to me) does NOT carry Disney comic books or hardbound series. I have to drive to Downtown Santa Monica to get to a shop that carries Boom! Disney Comics or any Disney special books. In The Netherlands I can just go to a corner shop and find ALL the Dutch Disney books. I can go to almost any comic shop and find Gladstones and Gemstones and some US special books. Interesting. I find it similar in Germany and Denmark.

In which city are you located now? Regardless of that, I would look in the Yellow Pages under Comic Book shops (or Comic Book sales-retail), and then telephone those shops (starting with the closest-looking on a city map) until finding one that carries Boom! Disney Comics. I suspect that buying them online is easiest. Comics shops in Europe used to order large amounts of Gladstones and Gemstones for their regular customers. We didn't have a shop in Den Haag that carried Gladstones and Gemstones, but Wonderland in Amsterdam always did. I suspect that most of these shops in The Netherlands, Germany and the Scandinavian countries are NOT importing Boom! comics. Am I correct? Is it because Boom! refuses to ship overseas? Or is it just that the shipping cost would be more than double the comic book cost?

I did find some Boom Disney's at a couple of the Toys R Us stores here in the Indianapolis area. It was a shock--a pleasant shock, but a shock nonetheless.
That might be worth a look, though, if you can't find a comic store.

When I was on vacation in New York City in 1992, as a child, it striked me a bit as surprising how rarely Disney comics were to find, even if I looked targetedly for them in every magazine shop in Manhattan which I came past. Finally, within a week I found a few copies of Disney comics in one shop and my brother did in another one. It was easier to get American Disney comics in my Bavarian provincial town.

A comic book dealer here in Germany whom I asked if they would have Boom!'s Disney stuff, just as they had the magazines of Gemstone, told me that Disney wouldn't allow that kind of comic export anymore because it doesn't want its different national licensees to compete with one another. I don't know if the information the man gave me was correct, but if it is such a policy rather makes shaking heads. American Disney comics in European can never be a serious threat to the sales of the national producers already with respect to their quantity. Those, however, who buy American Disney comics in special comic shops are anyway rather Disney freaks, geeks and collectors who rather tend to buy also much of the national comic production. But I see in every bigger railway station newsstand always a few Italian Disney comics anyway, if such a policy really exists, it seems to be indeed a "lex Boom!" designed with the comic import from America in mind ...

I have seen the Boom! titles at Books-A-Million also. The only other place I have seen them is at the local(50 miles away) comic shop. If you are looking for older issues, you could check an antique store, I have found them occasionally at those, but the chances aren't great.
If you give us a location, maybe someone will know of a place in the area you are visiting.

It's surprising how well that works at times. At 2 seperate antique markets in Belgium I found Mickey Magazines from the 1950s. In an antique shop in England I found a Disney book from 1965. For those who want to know, it this one:

I also have a backstory. A time ago I asked somebody who was going to America to look for some comics for me. He couldn't find anything. Why? Because it was THE EXACT MONTH that Gemstone had to fall its Disney titles.
So, and also from my own experiences, the best place to buy American comics is... Germany. They're hard to get in the Netherlands too.

My comic shop carries all the Boom Kids titles. Any decent shop should be able to order copies for you even if they don't normally stock Disney comics.
