I like the Disney Comics Era as much as anyone even though I started reading them during the First Gladstone Era but I have issues of every month of that Era.

Hi, folks:
I've just posted the latest chapter of the Disney Comics Story??"The Disney Implosion" here:
http://icanbreakaway.blogspot.com/2014/06/the-disney-comics-story-1990-1993.html
This was going to be the last full chapter, but there's SO much that went down during the second half of the Disney Comics line, it would have been a mammoth amount of info for a single entry... so there's another full chapter to go, where I'll cover fan reactions, promotions and the "last of the wine" before Gladstone resumed the comic book license.
Chapter 4 will be posted in early August... THEN an Epilogue post, later in 2014! Thanks ?? Dan

Thank You Honu Dan.

I thought they were going to finish The Story of Disney Comics Inc in August but it's already September. What's Going on?

Hi, Roger:
Sorry for the delay in posting the final chapter... it's a long one and nearly done, but office work and other projects have prevented me from scanning the images that need to be included in Chapter 4.
I promise I'll post a link in this thread the day I put it up! - Dan

Thanks Dan.

The latest chapter of The Disney Comics Story is now up, you can read it here:

Thanks for posting Honu Dan. I can't wait until 2015 to see the Epilogue. I read Chapter 4 yesterday. I still can't believe they originally planned to write a Goof Troop Limited Series. It would have been cool if they had made it. I don't care if it would have only had two issues.

Thank you, Roger: I'm glad you liked it, and hope it was worth the wait!
The Epilogue to The Disney Comics Story will be posted sometime in January or February??in the meantime, there's another post coming that has a Walt Disney comic book component to it, so please feel free to drop over and visit before the new year. - Dan

I'm looking forward to it.

I hope you get around to writing the Epilogue to The Disney Comics Inc Story soon.

Hi, Roger:
I've been putting together the final Epilogue post as my spare time permits??there's a lot to cover, especially considering the recent events of the past few weeks! I hope to get it up by the first week of March, and will post in this thread as soon as goes up.
In the meantime, here's one I just posted, which I think might be good reading (and listening) for anyone interested in newspaper comic strips:
Playlist: Songs of Comic Strips
Thanks! ?? Dan

Thanks for letting me know. I can hardly wait until it comes up.

Thank you, Dan, for that amazing and well-researched essay about comics-related songs. I tried to add a comment but I'm not sure if it went through. That's okay, though---I'll post it here too. That nice "copy & paste" function makes it easy to do.
Mickey Mouse, of course, was a "movie star" before he began appearing in comic strips, so this recording does not fit within the scope of Dan's essay but it deserves a mention. In the 1930s, many movie-goers would be upset upon discovering that no Mickey Mouse cartoon was on the bill. Their exclamation of "What! No Mickey Mouse?" became the title of a 1932 song written by Irving Caesar and recorded by Ben Bernie's Orchestra. The song failed to make the Billboard top 20. It can be heard at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AqOKoHu-MRk

Thanks, Thomps:
I don't think the comment went through on Blogger (but you're welcome to try again!) That Mickey Mouse tune is a great one, I own it on CD from an 1990 compilation. During the 1930s there were a few songs in tribute to Mickey beyond "What! No Mickey Mouse?" all unsanctioned by the Disney Studio... maybe one day I'll do a Mickey Mouse themed playlist. Seems like a nice project for Walt Disney Records to release in 2018 to celebrate Mickey's *gasp* 90th anniversary!
