Barks' Grandpa Beagle is called 186-802.
Barks' Beagles' elderly relative is called Blackheart Beagle.
Don Rosa mixed these two characters and for him, Grandpa Beagle is called Blackheart.
Barks, also depicted Papa Beagle and for him, every Beagles are brothers, instead, in Rosa's opinion, the Beagles are cousins to each other.
Grandpa Beagle is also called G-176.
In Italy he's called Nonno Bassotto and he brings the plate "GRAZIA" ("GRACE"), for his good behavior in jail.
In Brazil, he's called Vovo Metralha and doesn't bring the plate.
In W BB 6-04, he is called John Doe.
I think the last one is Beagles' maternal grandfather and I think that he is the father of Ma' Beagle.
The paternal grandpa, in my opinion, is Capt. Blackheart "Grace" Beagle, father of three, or more Beagles.
What about it?!

It's funny how Don Rosa made Blackheart Beagle and Grandpa Beagle the same person. Maybe Papa Beagle is one of Blackheart's sons. You're talking about Ma Beagle from Duck Tales right? The Duck Tales Beagles didn't fit in the same continuity as the Beagles from the Uncle Scrooge comics.

I don't consider the Beagles from Ducktales, only Ma' Beagle.
Maybe Papa Beagle is the father of the Beagles in that story.
G-176, Vovo Metralha and John Doe are similar, ergo I suppose that they are the same character, Beagles' maternal grandpa.
Grandpa Beagle, Blackheart Beagle and Nonno Bassoto are, in my opinion the same character, Beagles' paternal grandpa.

The DuckTales Beagles always reminded me of the Fratelli family from "The Goonies" (released a few years before DuckTales) with Ma Beagle in the Anne Ramsay role.

Nonno Bassotto is Grandpa Beagle's name in a foreign language. Not to be confused with Blackheart Beagle, who presumably has a different name in that foreign language.
But I'm not sure if "Nonno" really is the character's given name... Similarly, are lots of characters really called "Brer" (Brer Rabbit, Brer Bear etc.)?

Pretty much just the ones originating from the Brer Rabbit series (Brer Rabbit, Brer Bear, Brer Fox), though those aforementioned "Brer Animals" do often refer to Zeke, the Big Bad Wolf, as "Brer Wolf"

Brer is short for Brother. That's what it says on Don Markstein's Toonopedia.

The original Uncle Remus stories are *extremely* hard to read, even if English is your native language. I remember having to read them in grade school and was asking the teacher why everything was misspelled. Ha ha ha.

Sowff? You mean Sovjet Union? Before my time. :) And 1500 km (2400 miles for the yankees) away.
Or is it South? I am from Down Under, yes, but not that Down Under. There's another one, at app. 51* NL.
And then there's another South, maar dit spreek hulle daar Afrikaans.

"Nonno" means grandpa in Italian. The Beagle Boys are called "Banda Bassotti" there, and a single Beagle Boy, "Bassotto". Nonno Bassotto means Grandpa Beagle.

The Beagle Boys are called the Zware Jongens in Dutch, which you could translate as Heavy Boys. Their Grandpa Blackheart is translated as Zwarthart, which is reversed-translated as Blackheart. :) Only the Italian Grandpa is different. He's called Opaatje. I think you could translate that as Little Grandpa.
