Honkey GoKart (it: Umperio Bogarto) is a clare parody of the american actor Humphrey Bogart and of his roles as investigator as Sam Spade and Philip Marlowe.

Honkey is a penniless private invastigator who makes his first appeareance in "Zio Paperone e la Moneta Disco Volante" (Uncle Scrooge and the Flying Saucer Coin) on "Topolino Libretto" n. 1389.

Honkey changes his look, either in the beak (firstly short, then long) and the wearing (firstly a blue-red raincot and trousers, then only a yellow raincoat).

Honkey lives in the pension of Miss Molly in Raincoat Way.

Honkey works, at first, for Uncle Scrooge, alone and called by OK Quack, an extra-terrestrial Duck, from the pianet Duck, who lives temporarly by Scrooge, but recently Honkey works with Fethry Duck, Donald's overseas cousin.

In the story "Elementare Paperoga! Il mio nome รจ deleterio" (Elementary my Dear Fethry: My name's Deleterious), we know Honkey has a brother called Deleterious.

In the story "Zio Paperone Mecenate per Forza" (Uncle Scrooge Forced Maecenas), we know Honkey descends from Cornelius Coot.

Do you think you can like this charachter?
Do you think he can be utilized in USA or outside Italy?

If Honkey is a descendent of Cornelius Coot then He must be related to Donald. Maybe he is a distant cousin like Gus is.

Sim, it's really hard to discuss characters when you mix fact with fanfic so freely. "Honkey GoKart" is not an official name, Fethry is not Donald's overseas cousin etc. etc.

I've found the name "Honkey GoKart" from the website "Disney's Hoo-Zoo" and I thought it was a real name...
Fethry IS Donald's overseas cousin!
It is told in the first panel of "The Snacking Sleuths" (I TL 1108-B).

Disney's HooZoo is run by a private person, and the information found there is part fanfic. One of the fanfic elements: That Bogarto's English-language name is Honkey GoKart.

Not in the original (Italian) version. Perhaps the American dialoguer added that element to the story.

Anyway: in the original American stories with Fethry (by Kinney, Hubbard, Strobl etc.) Fethry acts and talks like a 100% American.

I have the original version, but I've always preferred to believe at the American translation...

There's no need to "believe" the American translation in this case. (-:

At the time Gladstone published "The Snacking Sleuths" in 1996, Fethry had never been a frequently-seen character in the domestic American comic books. Prior to 1996 he had appeared once in 1984, once in 1980, and before that not since the 1960s.
While the early Kinney and Hubbard Fethry stories were made in the USA, they were not usually published here. They were part of the "S-coded" stories that were first made for use by foreign publishers. Only a very few had appeared in the USA, and in 1996 Gladstone knew nothing about them.

So??flash forward to production on the American edition of "Snacking Sleuths." Gladstone knew most readers wouldn't have seen Fethry before, yet the story obviously presented him as someone Donald knew well. Looking for a quick explanation, dialogue writer Gary tossed off a reference to Fethry as Donald's "overseas" cousin.

I wouldn't call this canon, though. As conceived in the 1960s "S-coded" stories and used there through the 1980s, Fethry is 100% American; and from 2003 on??when the Gemstone staff and I were able to introduce him properly to USA readers in a wide variety of stories??there was no need to pretend he came from or lived anywhere else.

I note that both Mr. Jensen and Mr. Gerstein have written stories starred by Fethry...
Well, I have a question for you: "What do you think about him when you write "these" stories?"
Please answer...

In my opinion, Fethry

1. is as smart as Barks' version of Donald Duck

2. has the manipulative powers of Scrooge

Which means Fethry can manipulate others into joining him in whatever it is he wants to do (like Scrooge can), but isn't good at getting himself (and his followers) out of the resultant scrapes.

WoW!!!
I think in Italy, everyone thinks Fethry is the most stupid member, a part of Kildare Coot (who is nut/crazy), of the Duck Family...
Quackberg
I think Fethry is neither that smart or stupid but is somewhat, like Lars Jensen said, as smart as Donald. But he's extremely optismistic about things but not that manipulative, I have to say, at least in the stories I have red. Instead he just do things - even if the people around him wants/like it or not, so he is perhaps a little self-centered. But I don't think he wants to hurt anyone.

I thought this thread was about Honkey Go Kart not Fethry Duck.
