I think some of the lists are still 'under construction'. You should make that
clear to the newcomers. (Or is Rich's list complete now?)
Maybe you could also add some Frequently Asked facts about Don Rosa, why he
went to Gutenberghus etc. It was on this list once, but also several times
on rec.arts.comics or rec.arts.disney.

I have most of the Gladstone magazines, but I never read them. That is

I've seen Barks himself refer to him as a chicken *outside* the
stories, at least in the following quote:

and Luca Boschi's "Disney Index: La produzione sindacata" from them

Well I'm just interested in the Barks stuff - do people really read the
rest? I think I would be most happy with the BC42 index, since I have
a pretty good grasp of when the story I look for was made. If you just
send me copies of it I can "pay" for it by punching the data into a

Yes, they do. Well, I mean: I do. Have you never read the Rosa/Van Horn/Gott-
fredson/Jippes/Milton/Scarpa/Rota/Murry stories? Then you missed something..
I have a proposal for a 'working scheme':
1. Hannes sends me his title list.
2. I fill in the Barks codes. I'll also add the Dutch (H-)code-stories (from
the list Per mailed a few weeks ago), the Rosa stories and the stories
from the comics I have (not so many, I'm afraid)
(This would take me 1/2 weekend or 2 evenings, I guess)
3. Per checks this list by looking at the TBC #42 list.
4. Anybody else fills in the gaps, sequentially, so no double work is done.
About the format: I don't know. I always worked with 1-item-a-row, where the
position indicates the attribute. E.g.: position 1-3: number of pages, 4-14:
story code, 15-17: artist (abbreviated), 18-21: writer if not =artist, 22-..
story title or 'description' from Gladstone's credits. Something like the
H-coded-stories list of Per.
This looks very useful to me. What do you think? Would other people want such
a list? Hannes, would you mail me your list? (Maybe you posted it to r.a.d.
some time, but I have never seen it)

Hi there,
I just sent my Gladstone lists to Harry. They contain only the Barks and
Don Rosa stuff, but it's a start.
And I have access to my collection again, so I can look up the Gladstone stuff
if needed.
Another question concerning these lists:
How about putting this stuff on a ftp server, gopher server, wais server ? I
can try to get a little bit space for this on one of our servers (no guarantees
though...), but it would be helpful to know the size we would need for our
stuff. Does anyone want to try an estimate (Harry, Per ?) ?

First off let me say I'm a Duck fan, even though I can't remember every little
Barks story. I'm not what you call a "Barks Collector", but I love his stories
and therefore was the first to get to my comic store to buy the Gladstones!
My whole point is: Even though I was am a Barks Duck fan I also loved the other
disney stories! The F.G. (Can't spell his name!) Mickey Mouses, Goofy shorts
and all the other non-Barks ducks are just as important and readable to me.
I think that we should be careful. We should continue to express our love
for Barks' and Rosa's Ducks, but that is not all this list is for! This is
the Disney comics discussion list... not the Barks/Rosa discussion list.
If someone asks for a Gladstone index we shouldn't assume he means Barks
ducks only.
This note isn't meant to be nasty, just a reminder :)

Barks story. I'm not what you call a "Barks Collector", but I love his stories
and therefore was the first to get to my comic store to buy the Gladstones!
My whole point is: Even though I was am a Barks Duck fan I also loved the other
disney stories! The F.G. (Can't spell his name!) Mickey Mouses, Goofy shorts
and all the other non-Barks ducks are just as important and readable to me.
I think that we should be careful. We should continue to express our love
for Barks' and Rosa's Ducks, but that is not all this list is for! This is
the Disney comics discussion list... not the Barks/Rosa discussion list.
If someone asks for a Gladstone index we shouldn't assume he means Barks
ducks only.
This note isn't meant to be nasty, just a reminder :)

OK, I exaggerated a bit. I actually tried hard to read all stories, since

1. The Gladstone list
I mailed the Gladstone list to Per Starback (as I promised).
2. Don Rosa
I bought the Don Rosa album this week. Some points of interest (also for our
Rosa list):
. The book is comic-sized, i.e. smaller than the graphic novels Gladstone
makes.
. The book is called "Walt Disney's Donald and Scrooge" (that's all).
. Rosa drew a new cover for it, loosely related to 'The Money Pit'. Disney
gave the cover the code KJ8C33-1 (quite a ridiculous code 8-)
. The stories that were mentioned in the Rosa list are indeed reprinted here:
Money Pit, Xanadu, Glass, Landscapist, Stolen Time, Tower. Note that the
ads for this book state that 'Incident at McDuck Tower' was never reprinted
before. It was actually reprinted in Uncle Scrooge 268.
. The 3 covers for Money Pit, Xanadu and Glass are reprinted (small size) in
this book.
. On the inside back cover, Don Rosa wrote an afterword. In it, he explains
how he got the ideas for the stories in the book. Some quotes:
"Several of my Duck adventures have been reworkings of my old fan comics
which I originally pictured as Duck adventures but into which I reluctantly
substituted my own characters. Eventually I'll rework *all* my old stories
into Duck adventures!" [Incident at McDuck Tower is one of them.]
"I must acknowledge the debt I obviously owe Unca Carl. Every Duck story
I produce owes its very existence to that unmatchable body of work produced
by 'The Old Master'! In fact, (..) find the *dedication* hidden in every
Duck story I've ever done. In each splash panel you'll find a 'D.U.C.K.',
meaning 'Dedicated to Unca Carl from Keno' (Keno being my actual first
name). For the first few tales I did for GPS [Gutenberghus], the editors
removed the dedication from the art (until I explained to them what it
was... and *hid* it better). So you'll only find the 'D.U.C.K.' in the
first two stories [Money Pit, Xanadu] and the last story [Tower] in this
volume. I also hid it in the new *cover*. Fair enough?"

My ultimate goal is to have The Total Index (TM) of all Disney comics
*ever* *anywhere*, with lots of information on every one of them (like
where it has been reprinted, what characters appear, where one can
find references to that story, the layout of the pages, different
opinions on who inked it and the sources for those credits when there
is disagreement, etc. etc. (Yeah, keep on dreaming.) That would take
up lots of space, but back here in the real world we won't need that
much. I won't hazard a guess though.

I don't know if I'd pass the "collector test" either. I have lots of
stuff, especially Swedish ducks, but I almost never get any new books
to the collection any longer. (I certainly keep what I have, though!)

F.G. = Floyd Gottfredson. Yeah, I too like lots of other artists as
well. I think it was sad that Gladstone didn't reprint more good
Donald Duck stories by other than Barks, instead of printing so many
inferior Gutenberghus stories with Donald (although I have to admit
there were a few good ones too). I sorta liked Gladstone's digests,
as there were many "other artists" represented in them.

Harry added the original publications of the stories to Hannes's list,
and then I checked it against TBC #42 and made some corrections.
This is supposed to be a complete listing of Barks stories in
Gladstone books, except the digests (as they weren't in Hannes's list.
(If noone else does it, I will probably add them later in my copious
free time.)

This is supposed to be a complete listing of Barks stories in
Gladstone books, except the digests (as they weren't in Hannes's list.

about the Rosa Book that was issued this month. As far as I know, that's all
that appeared in English up to now (and I regularly check the new Disney
comics in my Amsterdam comic book store).
But what about new Scandinavian Rosa stories?
