I think that the gag is that the aliens are greeting Scrooge with a
medallion and a band that plays and Scrooge ignores it completely and
instead makes a dive for a coin on the ground to the aliens
bewilderment.

I bought my copy of Gemstone's latest US, #375, March 2008. The
long story is a reprint of Barks' "Twenty-four Carat Moon" US #24, Dec.
1958. The front cover is by Daan Jippes, featuring Scrooge in a space
suit leaping out of a rocket ship, being greeted by "little green men".
But the cover is not actually based on anything in Barks' story. The
little green men on the cover are not similar to Barks' green space
alien, Muchkale. Instead, they are closely related to the 2 little
aliens in Barks' story "Island in the Sky", US #29, March 1960, page 7,
panels 7-8. This was only a cameo appearance for these mini-asteroid
dwellers, who did not interact with the ducks. But other than the
similar little green men, Daan Jippes' cover has no close connection
with this Barks'
outer space story, either. So does anyone know what Jippes' original
purpose was for this cover art?

Yes, it was just a gag cover. First used on a Dutch comic without any
related story.
(At first I thought the cover referred to a story too, but it doesn't.
This may show how lame the "gag" of the cover is, even when the art is
beautiful.)

I looked up the cover, and it seems to be re-use of this one:

This cover has (according to Inducks) previously been used only one
time:
The Dutch Donald Duck magazine #33/1995.

However, nothing space-relevant seems to be on print in that magazine: I
haven't read the main story, but the title and description sounds like
it's about a big pumpkin. The second-longest story is a Mickey where
Mickey must take care of a pig. None of the other stories in that issue
has more than four pages. Neither does the cover has Inducks xref data
saying that it's a reference to a story.

So my guess is that the cover is meant to be a simple gag, with no
relation to a specific story at all. I can't say it's a gag I really
understand that much, but there's really nothing even vaguely related to
space in that issue. In fact, SCROOGE doesn't even appear in that issue
AT ALL! (cover excluded)

Then of course, this could be a cover that was drawn for one purpose and
used for another -- and in that case, only Daan Jippes and the fine lads
at Sanoma Uitgevers knows for sure.

Is this a well-known book? I did not know about it until very
recently, and was delighted to stymble upon it. This is what
I posted at Facebook's "iRead" application (where people
may post reviews etc.):

Carl Barks / Jan Gulbransson: Die grosse Welt von Entenhausen (1988)

It is a deep pleasure to stumble across this wondrous book -- I felt as
Olav H. Hauge with his famous line, "at me ei morgonstund skal glida inn /
p? ein v?g me ikkje har visst um" -- since this is a book I did not know
existed, until last week (in spite of my reasonably broad exposure to and
knowledge of Duckdom). It does say "copyright Walt Disney", and it is
properly published, by a German publishing company, but it also smells
suitably bootleggy and underground. I do not think it has ever been
published or distributed outside some small circles in the deeper cultural
forests of Germany.

Its size is not merely Big, but Giant: 40 cm x 60 cm, and it has almost no
words. So what is this what? It is a supreme but humble hom[m]age to the
eminent Carl Barks (1901--2000), the greatest cartoonist of the 20th
century. The pages are excellently constructed, filled with details from a
long list of identifiable Barks stories. Thanks, Rolf.

The author and artist of this abenteurerliches Buch is Jan Gulbransson (b.
1949), a grandson of the famous Norwegian artist Olaf Gulbransson
(1873--1958). Webbing around I learn that also Old Olaf dabbled in comics.

Many thanks to Todd Klein for the Don Rosa article: we hope that Mr. Rosa eventually will return to create more stories! Even official retirements can be overturned!

But if not, we can say that Mr. Rosa's stories will surely last to the end of the century and beyond.

well, i just subscribed to the list and this is the first time i'm trying to post here, so i'm not sure if i do it correctly..
i'm from greece (any other current-active greek members here??!?) and i'm 18 years old. i'm a great admirer of Don Rosa's and Carl Barks' work and i have a big collection of KOMIX magazine (whoever wants indexing-help for KOMIX just lemme know). but that's enough for me, i'm very happy to be member of the list.

well, my question is: has Don Rosa announced himself that he's retiring?? i've only read about that in June's messages so i don't know if it's real...

With Don's recent eye surgery he has cut back on his work, but he himself has
Never announced his retirement.
Until that happens, we all have hope that one of the many stories still in
his head will see the pages of Uncle Scrooge again.

To bad, but I guess Don Rosa told all he had to tell on Duck universe.

He give us the wonderful LO$ series, made some beautiful and touching
stories (especially "Letter from Home"), did a excellent job exploring some
old characters (especially Scrooge), add some new interesting characters
(Matilda and Hortense McDuck, Arpin Lusene) and re-untaited Donald with Jose
Carioca and Panchito Pistoles.

Mr. Rosa did more for us, then we Duck-fans may imagine and he will be
forever remember as one of the best Duck artist?

But I guess the best thing Don Rosa did was to set a example for all the
writer out there, on how to do great comic book, stories and that there is
still much un-explored in the old characters?

BTW (on that forum you link to) -> I also got the strange filling while
reading the ?Prisoner of white agony?? that its some short of Big finally,
for Don Rosa stories? But than again I got the same felling after reading
?The Letter from Home??

According to an Inducks search, there are seventeen different stories
where Glomgold and Magica both appear. Of course, appearing in the same
story doesn't necessarily mean that the two of them MEET and INTERACT,
they can might as well be involved in different parts of the story, but in
