Greetings!

Let me just pose an open question to Gemstone/Diamond: why are you acting
like morons?

Tell your customers and distributors what is happening! If you are
undergoing bankruptcy, then tell us! Why would you anger future
customers with such secretive behavior, if you are able to reorganize and
sell comics again in 6 months or a year?

Plus, people who have invested already in subscriptions for cancelled
comic books deserve to know where their merchandise is! It is simple
courtesy!

Thank you!

L. Schulte

So, with Gemstone pretty much gone, does anyone know if anyone else
has considered picking up the Disney comics license here in the US? I
grew up on Gladstone and have been enjoying Gemstone recently that
this whole situation breaks my heart. I learned to read through
Gladstone's Uncle Scrooge comics, which my Father bought since he too
grew up on the great duck stories.

usually a license last for a period of time - at last report Diamond still
plans to resume their classic Disney comics

I was reminded that two other companies still have licences for other
disney titles, TokyoPop (or was that Viz?) and SLG -amaze Ink.

All,

Everyone here is aware of the interruption in publication, so that
much is old news. Will publication resume? I have to say I have no
idea. There are reasons to think they will, there are reasons to
think they won't, and many things that don't easily fall on either side.

Possibly there are some things I know that aren't otherwise known
outside the company, but taken as a whole I don't think there's
anything I could relate that would give anyone a better idea of what
the future holds than he or she has now.

I know that probably sounds like a whole lotta nuthin', but that's
what I got.

If Gemstone is truly shutting down, I'd like to see it in the hands of
Dark Horse or IDW.

Thanks for telling us what you can Gary, even if it is not much. I have a question for you. I realize there is a very good chance your answer will be "I don't know", but I figured it didn't hurt to ask. Is this whole Gemstone/Disney comics situation likely to be resolved in any way soon? In other words, is it likely we fans and readers will know what is going to happen, whether good or bad, in say the next couple months? Or could it be March of *next* year and we will still be in this "holding pattern". If there is likely no resolution coming any time soon, I imagine it would be good to know even that. Thanks in advance for whatever you can tell us.

Just want to thank you, Gary, for posting your note. Even though you can't
tell us anything of substance, I find it very helpful to hear that the end
is not certain. And even apart from the shreds of hope to which I cling. I
just appreciate your telling us how things look.

And I so appreciate what you and all the folks at Gemstone have been doing
through the years to bring us great comics. I'd be grateful just on my own
behalf, even if you hadn't totally saved my young godson's school
career-which you did, by providing him with the only things he actually
wanted to read (other than Harry Potter). From a very weak and resistant
reader he turned into the kid with the best vocabulary in his grade! All
thanks to Disney comics, his mother affirms.

If I was to hazard a guess (semi-educated), it shouldn't take even
two months for matters to resolve one way or another. But that's just
a guess.

Gary, I want to thank you *so* much for the updates you have given us here on the DCML! I wasn't sure you would be able to tell us *anything* in regards to a timetable, so a "semi-educated" guess was more than enough. If you are right, and things get resolved in the next couple of months, well that is good at least. If Gemstone does not publish anymore Disney comics, well, at least us fans will know about it fairly soon and the whole situation won't be stretched out for months or years. On the other hand, if Gemstone does continue to publish Disney comics, well the sooner it all gets resolved, the sooner we get more Disney comics!

So thanks again Gary. Not only for this latest update, but for *all* your contributions to the DCML from Gemstone times, to Gladstone times, to the lack of Disney comics in between.

Actualy, SLG's license is over now. They got a special extension to publish
the last two Gargoyles trade paperbacks whenever they are done, but except
for that they will not be doing any more Disney comics

But don't forget Boom Studios has the license to do comics based on Pixar
movies, and the license to do Muppets comics. I think their first Pixar
comics are due next month...

Disney's D23 site is up and running now!
Don't miss the daily strips featuring Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck and Scamp
from the beginning.
(Unfortunately with no archive.)

Hello!

> Does anyone have the first three days of the strip they can point me to.

There is no archive, but strips are on the server named logically by date:

1 - http://d23.disney.go.com/library/images/Scamp_10-31-55.jpg
2 - http://d23.disney.go.com/library/images/Scamp_11-1-55.jpg
3 - http://d23.disney.go.com/library/images/Scamp_11-2-55.jpg

Same goes for Mickey

http://d23.disney.go.com/library/images/MickeyDaily_1-15-30.jpg

http://d23.disney.go.com/library/images/MickeyDaily_1-14-30.jpg

http://d23.disney.go.com/library/images/MickeyDaily_1-13-30.jpg

(the 1.13.30 strip is huge - reprinted from badly printed newspaper, although Disney have the original in their archives... hm...)

I don't get Donald strips the same way.
